Rookie Redemption Question

Hi, I'm sure this has been covered dozens of times in this forum, but I don't even know where to begin, and I'm sure some of the resident experts can point me in the right directions. Thanks in advance!

I'm a United 1P with 200,000+ trying to plan a vacation for 2 this summer. We would leave from NYC and (ideally) go to TLV for a week or so, with 2-3 day stopovers on the way there and back in fun places (I'm thinking Venice/Milan for one, open to suggestions about the other). I have a few questions:
a) is that feasible to do on a Saver award?
b) if so, how do I check on availability (is there anywhere online)?
c) is it possible to do more than one stopover in each direction?

Thanks everyone!!

  1. No. First, it would have to be a *A award (UA does not fly to TLV), and second, you are allowed a maximum of one stopover in addition to your destination.
  2. N/A. However, if you come up with a valid itinerary, you can check basic availability on ANA's SkyWeb. But be aware that just because you see it there doesn't mean UA will offer it.
  3. It's not one stopover in each direction, it's one stopover total.

Yofra, your questions are specific about the redemption using UA MP so the guys in the UA forum will be the experts for this.

Regarding checking availability, if you register for the FFP of ANA (free) you can use their online award booking tool to find availability. The problem is that UA does not make all of those seats available to their members so you need to discuss with a call centre.

Thanks, that was really helpful! I am now using ANA's tool, and I guess I have a follow up question - there is availability from NYC->Venice, NYC->TLV and Venice->TLV, but it won't let me search for a NYC-Venice-TLV trip...any idea why not?

It's possible that VCE is not on a valid routing between NYC and TLV.

But I also tried MXP, LIN, Barcelona, and Dublin, and they all gave me the same response...is it possible there are no European cities that can be used as stopovers on the way to TLV?

That seems unlikely, but anyway:
The best way to use the ANA tool is to 'build' your own itinerary from simple segments. Have your required trip ready (with alternatives if possible) and then get hold of the call centre and build the trip segment by segment with them. If the itinerary is not a valid one for award redemption, the call centre operator will tell you. (and of course, it seems that UA does not make all available redemption seats available to their FFP members but that is a different story).

At least LHR, FRA, MUC, VIE, ZRH, IST are all on published routings.
