EgyptAir and Star Alliance [MERGED]
Is Egyptair actually part of Star Alliance? The Egyptair site says "sometime in the next 18 mts." but the date is a long time ago. The United site doesn't mention Egyptair as a member. So....is it yes or no?
If it's yes, do Egyptair miles count as United miles 1 for 1?
If it's yes, is it safe to fly Egyptair? What's the worst thing about it?
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Don't know yet. Answer will probably be yes when they finally join.
it's safe. [guess which emoticon goes here]
1) Inconsistent in-flight service (Some crews are excellent, others not so great)
2) Hit or miss Ground service (Think: You are a Non-elite on UA, four flights have been cancelled - one of them is yours. There is one customer service desk and four hundred people lined up to see one agent, except... with EgyptAir it's not so much a line of passengers as a scrum of passengers.)
3) Cairo Airport (Think: IAD when they had that Bus Stand like terminal for UX flights going on)

I was scared to see the year 1999 one.
The plane dropped 15000 feet in 30 seconds.

They joined Star Alliance today (10th July)
No mention on the Star Alliance website though. Strange.

it looks like they changed their color of their logo recently. The color of the earlier one was much more colorful and better, although i do hope they change logo design and name style and get a working website.
