release of seats for frequent traveler use by air new zealand

I have posted under air new zealand not realizing that there's a special forum for star alliance.

Does anyone know when air new zealnd releases seats for purchase (using miles, points) by star alliance members.?

Res agaent at NZ says 3-4 months prior. UA hasn't got a clue. But I hav been able tom get a couple of possibilities in December 08 during the past 2 weeks (thru UA) and that's 5 months out.

Am willing to wait if there's a chance that seats haven't been released yet. I hate to settle for dates that really don't work.

Thanks a lot for your help.

you havent said in which route/class you are trying - if it is a high demand route like AKL-LAX in J then 5 months out is far too late . December is not only Xmas but it is also the main vacation time for Kiwis - sorry

Generally it is 300-330 days in advance. Booked LHR-HKG award tickets in Biz a few weeks back for travel in april.

And as you state your self this is cross posted in the NZ forum as well:

3 months prior is definitely not correct - at least not completely. Most Star carriers release reward seats roughly 330 days prior, as some have said above, and then release additional seats as they consider it necessary. So, December seats are most likely already gone, rather than not yet released.

Also, as well as general lack of availability, it could also be because of UA blocking its Mileage Plus members from redeeming miles on other Star carriers - search for 'starnet filtering' in the UA forum for the full tale of woes...

Very slim chance that more seats will be release. Mostly because of cancellations which might or might not get back into the pool.

It is not as bad as on QF where most seats on popular routes are taken 11 months before the date but almost. Take what is left otherwise they will be gone as well.
