*A on multiple airlines - how does it work?

Seems I'll be using multiple carriers of *A more (US Air, United, Swiss, and Air China).

Right now I really only fly Lufthansa on *A. How will mileage be assessed? Will I still qualify for XYZ level if all the miles are split between the 5 carriers? And which carrier would I get the actual card from? (Right now I have the Lufthansa card) Will I lose any benefits? What about lounge access?

I'm moving and my role is changing, so I won't be flying out of JFK much anymore.

Thanks.

You can fly any airline, but you should credit the flights to just one program. Since your membership is with LH, I would consider keeping just the LH Miles and More and credit the flights on other airlines into LH.

If you split the earnings into multiple airlines, you will have to earn status individually on each

Thanks. I found the FAQ on the *Alliance website which answered most of my questions. I do have a question though, the *Alliance site says anybody with Gold is allowed in any lounge that is *Alliance. I was looking at US Air (I will probably be using them quite a bit now) and it seems even if you are Gold, you have to purchase lounge access. Is that true?

So if I get a Visa signature US Air card and get Gold status on US Air, I have to pay for lounge access?? (Cf. http://www.usairways.com/awa/content...mberships.aspx and https://www.usairways.com/awa/clubs/enrollmentform.aspx)

It says 315$ for Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Charimans...

No. If your *G comes from UA or US, you would not have access on U.S. domestic itineraries, but if you are *G on any airline other than UA or US, you will have access to the US lounges just like any other *A lounges.

So, I can take my *G card into any other lounge, just not a UA or US lounge on domestic flights?

I've never really flown west, so this is a new venture for me.

Only those that are designated *G Lounges. Not every lounge used by the partners is a designated *G one, but you will find designated ones in most places you use.

Your LH*G card gives you access to UA and US lounges on domestic flights. It is only UA*G and US*G that do not get access to UA and US lounges on domestic flights.

Do they have an official reason for that?

Because the lounges would be standing room only if they allowed it.

Also...lounge placement. Some airlines have their lounges outside passport control. OSL airport comes to mind where a *G wouldn't be able to get to the lounge unless they are flying internationally. UA and US lounges are in domestic areas so they don't have that control

But I've never had a problem getting into other lounges with a *A business ticket...
