I know gold star members can take one guest to the lounge when flying economy on international flights. Can they also take an infant or child? If so, what is the age limit when the lounges start counting the child as a second guest?

as long as my guests (adults and/or children) bear the same family name and are on the same flight, I never had a problem to get them into the same lounge (be it a LH/LX/OS- or international Red Carpet- or TG- or SQ- or NZ-lounge, but not so when these lounges were only contracted ones).

I've taken my wife and 16 year old son into several different *A lounges with no problems. Never know unless you ask.

À propos, I recently had a series of interesting experiences. I usually travel alone or with Mrs 999, who has *G status in her own right, so lounges are not an issue. Lately I had three flights with a friend who has no FF status of any kind. At the first lounge, as she swiped my card, I informed the lounge dragon that 'Mr P is my guest today'. She welcomed us both in. Same same at the second. At the third lounge, it didn't even get that far. As the dragon took my card, she, seeing my friend standing right next to me, said 'And one guest?"

The thing is, in none of these three situations did my friend have to show his boarding pass, verifying that he was travelling that same day on *A.

AFAIK there is no defined age limit. It is up to each airline lounge to interpret as best they see fit. If it is an infant or toddler there should be no issues. However, once reach into school aged I'd expect a variation in treatment.

I have another question about *A lounge access and hoping someone on here might be able to help me out with it.
I have BMI Silver and am travelling on reward redemption tickets from Dublin to Tokyo, via Frankfurt, on LH.
I've only flown longhaul on LH twice before, both times via FRA, and both trips were more than 3 years ago. Both times I was able to access the LH business lounge for each stop over in FRA using my silver card.
My Tokyo trip is actually my honeymoon and, seeing as I spend more than half my time away from her on business and she thinks I lead some sort of glamourous double life, living it up in business lounges and executive floors, I'm keen for her to walk a mile in my shoes so to speak. So, I went to the *A website earlier just to check that we'd be able to the lounge in FRA during our 4 hour layovers and it says that I have to have *A Gold to get in.
So, what I wanted to ask was, have the rules changed since my previous trips or did I just get lucky last time? Does anyone have any experience of this scenario?

Coming back to the original question: Entering to *A lounge with my son (5 years of age) was turned down in DXB. I carry a SEN card.

We were travelling on a different airline though, so they were very strict on this. And my son really needed to settle, as it was in the middle of the night.

Went to the Priority passport lounge instead which was absolutely ok.

By different airline, you mean non *A airline?

I'm afraid the rules have changed. BMI and LH used to have an arrangement that silver members could use one another's lounges, but that came to an end over a year ago. LH FTL (*Silver) will get you into LH lounges, and BD Silver will get you into BD lounges, but otherwise you're out of luck...

Then the lounge attendant was correct in denying access to *A lounge if it was not SEN lounge operated by LH.

I strongly believe she was acting according to the rules, at least to the local ones. I do have her business card still somewhere, and I have reason to believe it was a SEN lounge although I don´t remember.

However, I have experienced some very friendly and social ground staff with LH, that were bending the rules if it was not an unreasonable request, and sometimes even acting in my best interest without any request at all (I think I gave an example in another post).

Doing the right thing and acting according to the rules sometimes just does not have the same result. Can´t criticise someone for following rules, but I can praise those who do the right thing.

The problem with bending rules is that it creates false expectation.

Seems to me you want the agents to do the wrong thing.

I have travelled with Mrs TK and 2 lads 13 and 15 and had no problems with TG and NZ in gaining access to lounges when travelling in Y as *G / ROP G. My presumption was that Mrs TK is my guest, and responsible parents don't abandon their kids at the lounge door.

Also, When I was flying TG F, and lads in C (same flight), no problems in getting both kids in F lounge in BKK.

This is a tough one....

First thought is : "Well, it's his kids.. fair enough"..

Second thought (the evil one...;)) is:

"Well, you can avoid "abandoning" them by.... I dunno.. NOT using the lounge?"

I wouldn't think to try to guest in more than one other person.. The rules are after all pretty clear there... even though I travel occasionally with MORE than one no-status companion... and would like to bring them all into the lounge naturally....

I'm sure I'd get no sympathy if I wanted to do that as a matter of course... (or even once for that matter!) yet folks with kids.. (and not toddlers/infants which I see as a different case entirely) seem to see it as an entitlement of some sort?

Hmmmm......... not sure what to think on that'un.... Shouldn't folks buy Annual guest passes or something? (Maybe a cut rate version of those - for kids - should be available??)

I suspect I'd only see it as at all important if the lounges suddenly filled with large families!!:D

After all.. if two "extras" who are teenagers is "OK"... then how about.. 3? or 5?

I know a guy with 7 kids all under 18 (:eek::eek:) .. how about him?

Well, it's only the middle of April, but this could easily turn out to be the understatement of the year. :)

I was trying very hard NOT to be one of those "nasty childless people"... (although I... AM one.) I LIKE kids.. I do.. and I work with them quite a bit......

I really DO try to understand.. but so often the "understanding" demanded of us nasty childless types (NCT's??;)) seems to be of the "don't mind me/us doing things noone else is allowed to do, just turn a blind eye and shut up" variety!!!:D

Ah well... as I said.. unless the lounges I use suddenly become like child care centres I really have no problem with folks bringing in the littlies.... <Sigh!>
