First Class on Air Canada?

On the SAS website, in the section discussing the EuroBonus FFP, they present what they call the 'Star Alliance award chart'. (I haven't been able to find that particular chart on the *A site itself, but anyway ....) In the text accompanying the chart, it says:

> You can book First Class award flights on following
> airlines, Air Canada, Air China, ANA, Lufthansa,
> Singapore Airlines, SWISS, Thai Airways, and United.

Now, the fact that the list includes Air China suggests that it was updated recently. But, then, what is Air Canada doing there? I thought they eliminated F service years ago.

???

cheers,

Henry

Just because they don't have a First Class cabin doesn't mean you can't book a First Class award. If you do, you will be seated in the Executive or Executive First cabin.

But why wouldn't that be true of all the *A members that don't have FC? Why is AC the only one mentioned, along with the carriers that do have FC?

???

You'd have to ask SAS - it's their web site. Maybe you can also ask them why they only include some *A carriers that fly 3-class planes, too.

Ah, but I asked here, because of the well-informedness of the regulars. And you jumped in with an 'answer'... why? just to jump in, for fun? even though you hadn't a clue?

cheers,

Henry

SK simply made an error -- perhaps they were confused by the "Executive First" description of AC's long-haul Business class.

Thanks. That's the obvious answer. In fact, SAS has had an AC 'F' option on their site for a long time, so it's not something that crept in with the latest update.

Isn't it funny: we tell them, and tell them, and tell them ... and they ignore us, and ignore us, and ignore us.

cheers,

Henry

Avoid AC at all cost--it doesn't make a difference

I don't know...

We've had a couple of pretty nice trans-Atlantics with them, including one 'back in the day' when they had the nonstop CPH-YYZ.

cheers,

Henry

Henry's customary lament: Why, oh why, is there no direct service on any *A carrier between any of the Nordic countries and anywhere in Canada?

Kagehitokiri Apr 11, 2008 2:26 pm

you mean nonstop?

also AC's new J is VS style flatbed. IIRC only SA and SQ have flatbed in J. plus UA on 1 route so far.

Just to bump this - Executive First does book as C, right? So it would be available on a C *RTW?

Minor note. C cabin, D class.

Jalinth Dec 21, 2008 1:13 pm

For AC, the paid business classes go Z,C,J with Z being the most restrictive and J unrestricted. D class is award. C should generally have pretty good availability. The only flights I've heard of problems in finding sub-J availability is with some FRA flights within a week of departure and SCL/EZE flights in the winter (variable). So you shouldn't have many problems in finding C class
