*A upgrade rules?

Hi all, this is my first post to this forum so please bare with me.

I'm typing this at NRT, I am currently a silver-tier on KrisFlyer and will be attaining gold in 1 month. I have never ever in 4 years of frequent flying redeemed miles for anything. I have about 100K miles on SQ and 80K on CX, now that I live in HK, I have flown CX a lot because of price and availability, but since I started traveling back to the US quite often, I am trying to fly *A more often. It seems that by being with KrisFlyer, I can't use any of my miles to get upgrades on NH, UA, AC. Does this mean I have to be flying with SQ? For personal flights where I want to upgrade, I definitely wouldn't book the costly SQ flights (typically double or triple that of CX) even though it's my favorite airline in the world. Since I generally move around a lot, I'm not sure which FF program I should be using for *A and 1W. I'll be moving to Tokyo in a couple of months, so being with *A will pay off, since imo NH >> JL

Thank you kindly in advance for your advice.

Firstly, welcome to FT ! :)

The Alliance wide upgrade program is not yet rolled out amongst all the carriers. The current participants are NZ NH OZ OS LO LH LX SQ SK TP TG and UA. (I think UA has pulled out of it recently).
However, like the FF reward schemes, each carrier has it's own rules/policies in place as to how they participate in the scheme.
AFAIK, SQ only has the interline upgrade reward agreement with NH OS LO LH LX and TG. From memory, only tickets in classes Y M B S or E are eligible for the upgrade - and I believe it's a lot of points to claim them too !!

Your question is probably better asked (and more quickly answered) in the Kris Flyer forum, as it relates directly to the SQ scheme/rules rather than the Star Alliance.

Cheers and Regards.

Thank you very much for your replies. Back when I was young, I had mileage accounts on AA, BA, VA, and others. Now I am trying to achieve gold each year on 1W (CX) and *A (SQ), I can usually manage it, but it's very frustrating when I have never and seemingly cannot redeem my miles. I suppose since I'm living in Hong Kong and take NH flights fairly regularly, I will try to use my miles for NH flights. I cannot see myself flying SQ in the near future, but since I'm originally from NY, I suppose it would make more sense getting a UA M+ account. I suppose if I focus on flying with them and *A, I can achieve 1K. But them pulling out of the *A upgrades facility does not do me much help being in Asia. Anyone else living in Japan, Singapore or Hong Kong have any suggestions?
