ANA announced new Star Alliance Award Chart

Dear all
FYI ANA announced the renewal of their mileage program, and
it also included changes in their Star Alliance Award Chart.

https://www.ana.co.jp/amc-new/eng/det_area_teikei.html

Not big changes - more detailed mileage buckets in shorter lengths

This is great! If I am reading this correctly... does this mean that I can get a United award from Denver to Washington for 17,000 ANA miles? (Distance = about 1,500 miles)

If I convert my SPG points to ANA at 20,000 SPG points = 25,000 ANA miles, this effectively would mean that I could get a United award from Denver to Washington for 13,600 SPG points.

Obviously, this is much better than redeeming United (or other Star Alliance carrier) miles for a 25,000 award on this route.

AFAIK this chart is based off of roundtrip distance. It looks like 1600 miles or less is the roundtrip distance, so IAD-DEN-IAD wouldn't work, assuming you want to go both ways.

Good point, I read through this too quickly. Still, it appears that DEN-IAD-DEN would require 22,000 ANA miles, which works out to 17,600 SPG points (assuming 1 : 1.25 conversion rate after bonus 5,000 miles).

???

* Even if an ANA flight is included in the itinerary, if there is a single flight from another airline company in the same itinerary, the flight awards chart for Partner Airlines (left) will be applied

So United is a partner airlines. Does this means the new awards chart does not apply on United flights say from DEN-IAD?

Yes, my understanding is the same as lucky9876coins'.

Actually, this change is a great enhancement for people like JonnyP.
So far, ANA Star Alliance Award had a strange rule - when redeeming
miles on a single *A partner airline, airline-specific chart was applied, and
for UA-only domestic itinerary 25,000 miles were required, just like UA MP miles.

However I believe they removed the restriction, so you can get US domestic awards on UA metal with, mostly, less ANA miles.
If you are going from DEN to SFO (not IAD) then for sure you can get award
seats with less miles than UA MP.

The new rule will be applied on and after April 1 2008.

So far in my experiences, about UA award seat availability, there is not much
differences between UA miles and NH miles. Hope this continues...

AndrewM,
I think this explanation is direct translation of Japanese website and somewhat confusing maybe -

The point is, ANA Mileage Club has a different award chart for NH-only itinerary just like UA does.

This note wants to mean - "Even when ANA metal is included in your award
itinerary, if any other *A (or any ANA partner airline) metal flight is also
included in the same itinerary, then this chart (not ANA-only chart) is applied". I am not sure from where the "left" came.

and all this crap with high season, low season , its ........ and just makes it too complicated for the user.

I am not a big ANA fan at all - however

> all intra asian travel destinations from japan requires more miles than before..

this is untrue.
For example, economy class award from Tokyo -

Tokyo to Seoul: no change in "regular season" (15,000 miles) and less (12K) in "low season"

Tokyo to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong: No change in regular season (20K) and less (17K) in low season

It is true that more miles required for "high season" but it has been hard
to get award seats in the high seasons anyway.

I agree that the seasonality is compicated.

if you have to pay more miles in the high season than its an increase.
