London to San Jose *A Biz Redemtion.

With BMI DC and the gf and I have enough miles to fly rtn Business to SJO. This would be our first Biz class flight and want to get the most out of it (might be able to squeeze 1st one way if we get enough miles on the credit card!).

So I'm now stuck on the query of how to get there before I start looking at the availability issue.

Options I've seen:
AC via YYZ (would that be in the new bus. class as on the front of their website or some older version?).

US via CLT or PHL or PHX

Being redemption I can mix carriers, so take a European airline out of London (or Germany/LH as BD will let you do that small back track) to the US. Then an internal flight to one of the airports listed above and then fly on down to SJO.

I don't know if there is a limit on the number of flights you can take to get from A to B on a redemption - but that would play factor in this I guess!

Welcome anyone’s two-cents/pence

The options as per the *A time table:
http://www.staralliance.com/flightSe...archbutton.y=8

The option via YYZ is not so good as you arrive in YYZ late at night and the flight to SJO is only in the morning. The 763 might be the old C product. Check the AC forum for details on how to spot the old config.

The AC product to SJO however is far superior to the US product. The US transatlantic C product is horrid. Don't even think about it.

If you have the time, I would advise you to fly to YYZ using LH (good seats) or OS (great food, new seats), take a days break on the outbound in YYZ and fly to SJO with AC.

On the way back take the AC999/AC858 combo that takes you home in under 15 h. If you miss your connect in YYZ, AC will put you into an airport hotel

Avoid US/UA on long haul and perhaps stopping in a US city at all.

Thank you for the excellent response.

I hadn't even considered OS. Will bounce off the BMI forum to see if they will let you route that way from LHR
