Switching from one *A member to another
 

Hello, I will try to keep my story brief but it is needed to understand my current situation. I started to fly over a year ago mostly on SQ. I did not subscribe to Krisflyer by then as I already was US Gold and wanted to continue to enjoy the benefits. This year I have achieved US Platinum status (over 75000 qualifying miles) exclusively on SQ flights but there are some benefits I do not get as a result (ie bonus miles for being platinum). If I fly CDG-SIN in Y I am therefore only credited with 6666 miles which would be 8333 if I was a Krisflyer member with the 25% tier bonus on actual miles flown (and may be even more if I was Miles and More as I see a 150% bonus for flying on a Y fare). My flights are usually a mix of B, Y or J fares.

I am now considering switching to Krisflyer and since I know they do not do status match or points transfer within *A I was curious to know if I could consider crediting my forthcoming points to Krisflyer while showing my US card to enjoy some of the benefits I would not get with Krisflyer at the beginning (like Lounge access and priority tags on the luggage). Does it make sense? Should I bother? Was anyone faced with a similar dilemna? Should I even consider switching to Lufthansa which seems to be even more generous with miles thanks to their S and Y policy? Or should I stay with US knowing I am not likely to fly with them within the coming years?

well, the orange priority tags usually don't work by themselves but only if it also says "PRIORITY" on the bag tag itself so you'd be "downgraded" here but you can of course credit your miles to any *A program and still use the lounge showing your *G card.

Did you check that the awards you are interested in, do not cost at least 25% more with KF than they do with Dividend?

Other than the bonus I see little advantage in the switch which constitutes a major effort. KF does neither value *G nor do they pay any attention to KF Golds. Anything short of PPS and it's derivatives have no weight whatsoever.

For my taste, the incentive to switch would definitely be quite a bit too low to dare the task.

As for M&L ... it's not a program for Y flyers, especially not Y flyers on non M&L carriers.

It depends on: the OP states that he flies on B, Y and J fares. While SQ B will only earn you 100%, Y and J earn much more. And I always find the award availability with M&M pretty good.

Y earns you 150% of the miles flown. And while Y on SQ is indeed not insanely expensive, it will still be 3 to 5 fold of what lesser fares will be. There is no match between earning and spendings there ;) .
M&L availability on the integrated partners is relatively good for the premium cabins. Intra Europe awards in coach to popular destinations, I search in vain since 2003.
As for *A awards, I don't know the Dividend program well enough.
