AC or LH in long-haul BC?
I'm finalising a US award that where I fly Air Canada TATL and have the option of either Air Canada or Lufthansa business class on the return. I haven't flown BC of either in several years (never on LH, over 10 years on AC). Which one would be better? Not looking to sleep too much as it's a daytime flight and I will have come in the previous day from MEL via HKG and CDG. I am not sure if the AC flight will be XM'd by Sept. '08. AC equipment will either be a 333 or 763. LH will be a 346.

I would strongly suggest you go with LH. Service wise I have always found LH to be better than AC (some people do say that LH can get efficient to the point to being cold but I much prefer this to the supremely inefficient and sometimes rude service Ive gotten on AC). On the AC metal 333 and 763 it is unlikely that you will end up with the new BC (definately not on the 333 and probably not on the 763) while on the LH A346 you will definately get their new BC (which IMHO is much better than AC's new product anyways). Hope that helps.

For me new AC BC pods are much better than the new LH product.
Service: I have had no problems with AC and they can be more friendly. Food: AC has a better menu long haul but the meat dishes (steak) were so tough that I couldn't eat it. LH has deteriorated in the food department over the years. IF you can get the new AC pod, I'd go for it but as the previous writers have stated it is not a given and may even be unlikely. Shofar |

When we landed though, we had a delay of 50 minutes for a gate at LHR, partly, I think, because they were expecting some 'officials' to board before we were allowed off.... it wasn't for the psycho, but for someone in the back section who must have really done something nasty! At least 6 police boarded to escort him off. Apart from these and the hyperactive child, it was a pleasant flight  |
I would take AC Business over LH Business.
The last few times I have flown LH over the Atlantic, it was in First, and I found it only marginally better than AC Business. I did look at their C cabin, it did not look as good as AC's. |
LH, no questions asked, for the fact that you're not guaranteed AC's new BC. I also like LH's service better.

I recently received a brochure on the new AC J seat onboard the 777. Looks very impressive indeed. Can definately give AC another shot on YYZ-HKG (a route that already has those seats) in the future.
