Singapore-Dalian options?
 
I've done a couple of searches and the best fit so far seems to be SIN-HKG-Dalian, which I'm trying to avoid coz I wanna get star alliance points... anyone with a better suggestion please?? thanks :)

Have you tried the 'Flight Search' tool on the StarAlliance webpage? You put 'Singapore' in the 'from' box and 'Dalian' in the 'to' box, give approximate dates, and it will show you dozens of possibilities. One stop routings include via KIX or ICN.

Both of those are good options. Try to avoid connecting in China if you can help it (unless you want to stopover). HK is ok but HKG-PEK is often subject to ATC delays so I'd avoid if there were other suitable alternatives.
