Help requested on FRWSTAR itinerary

All,

I am considering ticketing a RTW fare with Star Alliance, from NRT with SQ, in the next few days. I am familiar with the Oneworld fares (indeed, I am currently on one such journey), but not those of Star.
I have checked this itinerary with the mileage calculator, but would appreciate some opinions. The real purpose of the trip is the HKG-xSIN-LHR leg, with the rest simply as fun. In particular, I want to maximise:

(1) Travelling in first class
(2) Travelling on SQ (to retain my PPS).

Here is the proposed itinerary:

NRT-SIN-HKG-xSIN-LHR-FRA-JFK-SFO-SIN-NRT

According to the calculator, this is 31886 miles and hence FRWSTAR2. I am tempted to make my own way from JFK-SFO, but I gather the miles of any surface segment are included in any case.

I would appreciate any advice on how to improve this, or anything I am overlooking.

Thanks in advance,

Irish lad.

Thought of something - but then thought better of it! Sorry.

Your 31886 total is ... disturbing. :) You'll be paying for 34000, so that's a lot of FF points (especially in FC!) going to waste. How about a sidetrip: ... -SIN-HKG-BKK-HKG-xSIN-LHR- ...

TG has F on the HKG-BKK route and that would bring your total to 33983 (according to the GCM).

cheers,

Henry

NRT-SIN-HKG-xSIN-LHR-FRA-JFK-SFO-SIN-NRT

Let's see.... I would change the last few segments, and go down to a 29,000 miles fare. Rather than JFK-SFO-SIN-NRT, I would fly JFK-LAX-NRT, or JFK-SFO-ICN-NRT. You would then have a few thousand extra miles to play with.

Well there is not doubt you get to travel a lot on SQ, but wouldn't it be nice to try some other airlines during your RTW trip?
The great thing about *A RTW tickets is that you can mix and match carriers as much as you want, and there are plenty of other nice *A first class products to try. As far as I can see the only other airlines you're flying other than SQ is LH LHR-FRA (short flight, and in C) and possibly UA JFK-SFO (nothing to write home about, even in F).
I don't know how many SQ segments you need for PPS, but otherwise both LH, LX and NH F are very nice and could fairly easily be included in your itinerary.

Also, as already mentioned, you do have over 2000 miles left, it would be a shame to waste them wouldn't it?? ;)

I have rejigged the itinerary. How does this sound? Any further recommendations? I intend to use LH for the FRA-JFK leg and NH for the JFK-NRT segment. Also, it is now under 29,000 miles. Thanks!

Looks like a nice plan -- FC terminal in FRA, NH on one of the ultra-longhauls, SQ on the other. Except ... what happened to

:)

cheers,

Henry

It's now TPE-xSIN-LHR!

One question I have is with regards to the JFK-NRT flight. I was intending to travel this with ANA on NH009 (during August). However, there rarely appears to be A-class availability on this flight according to Expertflyer.
Has anyone tried this recently? Would I be better switching to SFO-NRT, as there appears to be better A-class availability on NH007 (which will have first class later this year).
Thoughts? Thanks...

Have you looked at fares ex-BKK as these may be cheaper - even with a trip to start your journey.
