Look at the success of Asiamiles with some major carriers:
Aer Lingus Air China Alaska Airlines American Airlines® British Airways Cathay Pacific Airways China Eastern Airlines Dragonair Finnair Gulf Air Iberia Japan Airlines / Japan Asia Airways / JALways LAN Qantas Airways Royal Brunei Airlines Vietnam Airlines I don't see why they can't share the compliacated revenue, if Star Alliance is already able to offer the "Round The World" fare...! |
I think we would see all of the *carriers merging into one airline before there would ever be a unified FFP... For programs like aeroplan which is going further and further away from a FFP to more a strange/expensive reward system with FF component. Of course regulations would stop any sort of unified worldwide carrier although the at the speed Lufthansa is buying airlines who knows!? I do add that I would be one of the first to sign up for a unified FFP!
Happy Travels! |
My company policy on air travel is cheapest econ ticket
If they all combine to form Star Alliance Mileage Plus with SWUs, CR-1s, bonus promotions, elite bonus of 100% for *Gs, all fare accumulates 100% EQM program, then I woudn't have any problem. Actually I would be more happy to be able to use SWU on SQ! But we all know this wouldn't happen. It would be something similar to M&M program where one gets very little for flying cheap Y. In that case, I would run to dAArk side with OW. And there would be many UA flyers who feel the same. And asiamiles are for earning & redeeming only. CX has their seperate elite program with MPC. |
I vastly prefer things the way they are. The OP's suggestion would decrease the value of the program to the point where I would switch to another alliance. But I think that's the intent - this proposal already reduced the *G population by about 90% (in addition to taking away lots of benefits).
