Stopover city probelm

Hi all-

First a little background with my situation: I will be working this summer in Singapore for 8 weeks. To start, I was going to go to S. America on the RTW ticket and explore a bit. I want to then fly out of GRU to JNB and the to CPT where I will visit a friend for a bit. CPT back to JNB and straight to Singapore where I will start working. Basically, I wanted to use the rest of my segments (should be about 15) to take me all over Asia and then one flight back home to the US (I'll take my flight back to S. America later in the year).

Here's the problem. I want to take weekend trips to various places while I am working in Singapore. The rules, though, as I understand is that I can only stop over in one city on any segment a maximum of 3 times which really limits the amount that I can use th ticket while I'm working!

Do you all have any ideas of how I can circumvent this and still make the ticket worth it?

Thanks. David

You will have to buy extra tickets from Singapore (e.g. SIN-KUL or SIN-BKK). You may still be able to use your RTW ticket then for longer flights, connecting in KUL or BKK.

another question

There is a flight that saa does from Istanbul to JBN, but it's not in the staralliance timetable. Is there anyway that I can get on this flight with the RTW ticket? I know the answer is probably no, but just in case.

I'm guessing it is a codeshare? Check if the flight number is one of the prohibited ones in the RTW rules (link found in the sticky *A reference links).

Otherwise if it is new or seasonal flight may not appear in the online tools yet.

Where did you get the information about an SA flight from IST to JNB?
The SAA website as well as the electronic timetable show nothing of the sort. All IST/JNB itineraries are via European connections (LHR, FRA etc) and use LH, LX (as well as non *A carriers like TK and KL). So on an RTW, one would have to use multiple segments to get from IST to JNB.

Way wrong. The rules say that you can stop in any one city (or the various city 'twins' or multiples, actually, but that doesn't involve SIN) exactly once on an RTW. You can transit a city three times (or twice, if you also make a stop there).

So, once you arrive in SIN to begin your 8-weeks working there, if you leave again on your RTW ticket you can only pass through twice more; you can't stop again.

This does seem to complicate your plan.

cheers,

Henry

This may be a dumb question, but I can start my RTW ticket in South America, right? I haven't seen anyone on this forum originating in South America. Nor have I seen any prices for South America.

Check out the *A RTW Mileage Calculator for routing and fare info.

cheers,

Henry
