RTW checking in

I am sorry if this is a stupid question, but here goes; I am travelling RTW on economy class. When reading this page, ít seems like it is possible to reserve seats in advance. But afaik I can only check in 24 hours in advance. Is there any hints on how to get good seats? I am travelling on SK, LH, UA, NZ and SQ.

On longhaul flights you can usually reserve seats in advance, on shorthaul flights you can normally reserve seats in advance if you are *G (although your status does not indicate if you have status).

Just give your airline a call and see what they can do.
Hope this helps!

A follow up question

I have bought my ticket directly at SAS. So should I talk to them, or the different airline companies? It is allmost only long-haul flights.

Just call SAS, they should be able to help you with seat assignments, even on other *A airlines.

Call the airline, but be sure to research the best seats here on FT before calling.

As suggested, I would call SAS directly and try to work through them to book your seats. However, don't be surprised if they cannot book seats on certain airlines. I had that happen to me on a few airlines on a RTW ticket. I wasn't able to book a seat on SQ out of FRA to SIN (but got a seat on SQ out of JFK to FRA) and I wasn't able to book my seats on NZ from SYD to AKL and LAX and nothing on any of my U.S. sectors (on US Airways). So it was a bit of hit and miss (on a paid C ticket) but at least I got window seats (my preferred seats) on all but the AKL to LAX sector on NZ. Good luck and enjoy your RTW trip...

In business and first you should always be able to get seats allocated by calling the operating airline directly (as long as not oversold with every seat already allocated). In economy most times you should also be able to get seats allocated by calling the operating airline directly as long as haven't already reached the pre-allocation limit (there may also be some airlines which don't allow pre-allocation in economy?).

I think SQ doesn't assign seats in economy in advance. But how could YOU know about SQ economy... :)

I guess you would have to call SQ. Expert Flyer shows F and J seat maps but not Y for SQ

Years later I'm still trying to block out the memories flying to and from europe on SQ economy.

I booked and paid for a Y seat on SQ web three weeks ago and was able to choose a seat ( 43c ). This was for SYD to AMS so I am not sure if it can be done on a RTW ticket.
Have Fun, Ray

now this is good news, hopefully it works not only for bookings on the SQ website. Back in May I tried to secure economy seats in advance by phone - no dice.

I've been able to reserve economy seats on SQ by calling them directly, but neither they nor LH would reserve bulkhead or exit row seats for me in advance (I'm UA *G). LH's excuse was that they had to see me in person to decide if I was fit enough to assist with emergency procedures if needed (I said they could assign me the seat and then take it away at check-in if I showed up in a wheelchair, but they didn't go for that), while SQ said they wouldn't assign bulkhead seats until they saw how many people showed up with infants and needed bassinets. In the end I got the seats I wanted on both airlines when I checked in, but it would have been nicer to have them locked in in advance.
