Min. transfer time needed in DEL
 

Okay guys,

I haven't heard so much good about DELhi, but I would like to get your advise.
I have a friend of mine coming from Australia to Europe, but since I don't have enough miles for the whole distance I have to make it two awards one Australia-India and on India-Europe.
Now when trying to book the awards, I get availibility, but the flights are not the ones I intended to get and this leaves my friend with about 4 hours of "transit time" between the incoming and outgoing flight in Delhi.
Do you think that that is enough to make it or might he risk to be stranded in Delhi ?
Did anyone of you encounter a similar problem and was able to make it (almost) one ticket by linking the two awards ?

Are you using M&M (your location is Germany)? If flying Y, a direct award is 100,000 miles, whilst two awards will cost you 60,000+80,000 miles. What a waste! Can't you try and get the 20,000 miles in some way?

If not, why don't you stop in SIN or BKK - this would be 140,000 miles as well, and would be easier to transit, and has also better connections.

Well I am using US and UA as FFP.
I need 40k for Australia-India (Central Asia) and 60k for India-Europe.
As said I don't have enough miles in each of the programs to get one award for the whole trip and the best way to get it is via Central Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal), so I chose India as the "gateway".

Four hours should be enough for transit. Though i would be careful and make sure that the onward connecting airline knows that you are going to be on a air-side transit. to get to the departure area in DEL airport, you need the airline to take you through security.

Also, depends upon what month - some months in winter the fog in delhi is notorious and can dampen any plan.
