Vienna Connection Time??
I just noticed that I have a VERY short connection time in VIE.
Arrive VIE on OS 0864 from CAI at 6:55 PM scheduled to depart on OS 8505 to WAW at 7:30 PM. (35 minutes) Also.. on return Arrive VIE on OS 0694 (Tyrolean Air) at 4:05 PM Depart on OS (Tyrolean) at 4:45 PM to MUC (40 minutes) Can these be made? |
MCT is 30 mins (I think) at VIE, so the connections should be valid.
Not sure when you're flying, but snow has been a problem before at VIE causing delays. I have had short connections at VIE before and have always made it. Some people here complain the baggage handling might be a bit slow leaving luggage behind in VIE during short connections, but that has never been a problem to me either. The good thing about your first transfer is that it's non-Schengen -> non-Schengen which means you don't have to pass passport control and walking distances should be short (but the WAW flight will most likely use a remote stand so you'll be bussed there). Not sure where you arrive from during your second transfer, but connecting between two Schengen flights or two non-Schengen flights always make the transfers easier and quicker. |

VIE is pretty small airport and even if you have to walk from one end to another you should make it - assuming that your flight is not delayed.
The NH hotel in the airport is OK (nothing more) if you get stuck for the night. |
I appreciate the replies and the assistance. I do feel somewhat better about the connections.
The second trip thru VIE is from RIX (Riga) and involves a flight to MUC and then on to Delhi....so I hope it is considered non-Schengen and I will not have to clear immigration. |

I've commonly done 30 minute connections at VIE in the past. As long as you don't go shopping and head straight for the plane you should be OK. |
I've had very good experiences with short connections at VIE. It never takes very long to get around the airport (even passport control is fast). If it is physically possible to make the flight (i.e. you don't arrive too late), you should make it.

VIE does sell itself on short connection times. If you have a very short connection there will normally be someone waiting for you to take you directly to the next flight. otherwisae if you can go through the transfer desk or if you have the time you can clear passport control and walk to your next flight. I have had a 5 minute connection in VIE when my flight from LHR was late they just walked me to my next flight which was at the next gate. When I asked about my luggage they showed me out of hte window someone carrying my case accross to the plane.
As far as luggage goes short connections have never been a problem. But the couple of times I have had two hour plus connections there both times my luggage failed to make it to my next flight. |
