Have been trying to figure out the cost/benefit of switching to AC for *A membership basically because of the lower threshhold for Gold, don't do enough trans pac flights anymore to make Gold on United. Again thanks. -A. |
It's a neat find, but you have to weigh the benefits. Is it worth saving $300-$400 a year in RCC costs, if it means doing away with upgrades, double elite miles, etc.? Especially if one flies on mostly UA, there are definite trade-offs in earning in another program. Keep in mind that, especially if living in the U.S., it's a lot easier to earn extra/bonus UA miles than to earn AC miles.

Also note that AC dicriminates highly against low fare short hops on *A partner airlines. So earning that low threshold of miles to become elite with them is quite difficult.
You could earn *G on TG, SK or AC (all low threshold) and then continue earning miles on UA. |

Flying on LH in C class FRA-IAD connecting to an LH codeshare (IAD-MSY) operated by UA and in F on that segment. Can I use the Red Carpet Club at IAD upon presentation of the LH and UA boarding passes? Have no status on either LH or UA. Star Alliance rules are very unclear- says "Customers who present an international Business Class boarding pass, regardless of the Star Alliance carrier they fly, have access to all members' designated business departure lounges. Guests are not permitted." Is the RCC at IAD considered a "business departure lounge"?
|
That really depends on how much you fly. I fly enough to make and keep current with UA 1K, LH Senator, SQ PPS, and BD Silver (I'll be gold in about a month).
I take the best benefits of each program.

My colleague is *G with AC and uses the RCC all the time for domestic travel with UA - has an easier time getting into the lounges than I do with a BD *G card! |

Someone please help, A. Never succeeded. LAX is the best - 100% success. SFO really depends, unpredictable. DaBee |
