The case may be well known to those of you in Asia or Australia. I would urge others with a concern or interest to look at the details in the Australian press.
I have been thinking about this for the past few days and have concluded that I will NOT fly with SIA again for I will not do anything to support the Singapore Government because of the way it has handled this and other similar cases. Others with similar views might like to consider doing the same. cheers Flyertalk Guidelines & Rules Actions That Will Compel FlyerTalk Intervention Duplicate Posts Duplicate posts take two forms: Identical posts placed on more than one discussion thread. p.s. Keep your personal and religious beliefs to yourself. It is good to hear that you have other choices, like QANTAS, whose government took part in the massacre of innocent Iraqi's in Iraq. There you have it. Ciao!!!!!!!!! cheers |
If you fly C or F SIA is a good choice, if you fly Y IMHO stay away from them.

Although I to am against the death penalty I don't see that the Singapore government is acting in an improper way. The law is very clear and if you travel you have to accept the law of the land you travel to. Therefore I don't see any reason to single out Singapore. Of course if you want to boycott all countries which have the death penalty that is your choice. Here is a list of countries which maintain the death penalty and actively carry it out.
AFGHANISTAN, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, BAHAMAS, BAHRAIN, BANGLADESH, BARBADOS, BELARUS, BELIZE, BOTSWANA, BURUNDI, CAMEROON, CHAD, CHINA, COMOROS, CONGO (Democratic Republic), CUBA, DOMINICA, EGYPT, EQUATORIAL GUINEA, ERITREA, ETHIOPIA, GABON, GHANA, GUATEMALA, GUINEA, GUYANA, INDIA, INDONESIA, IRAN, IRAQ, JAMAICA, JAPAN, JORDAN, KAZAKSTAN, KOREA (North), KOREA (South), KUWAIT, KYRGYZSTAN, LAOS, LEBANON, LESOTHO, LIBYA, MALAWI, MALAYSIA, MONGOLIA, NIGERIA, OMAN, PAKISTAN, PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, PHILIPPINES, QATAR, RWANDA, SAINT CHRISTOPHER & NEVIS, SAINT LUCIA, SAINT VINCENT & GRENADINES, SAUDI ARABIA, SIERRA LEONE, SINGAPORE, SOMALIA, SUDAN, SWAZILAND, SYRIA, TAIWAN, TAJIKISTAN, TANZANIA, THAILAND, TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, UGANDA, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, UZBEKISTAN, VIET NAM, YEMEN, ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWE |

To fly SQ or not is solely up to each individual.
Yet, one does not need to voice self righteous view to others. The bottomline is there are many other horrible things in the world than death penalty. Sad to say this, though. Government ownership has nothing to do with it. If you will boycott SQ, 'cos it is owned by Singapore government. You should also avoid QF, 'cos QF pays taxes to the government whose prime minister is eager to serve as Mr. B_ _ _'s secretary in Asia and whose government endorses unlawful invasion in Iraq and massacre on the Iraqi civilians. If your moral standard is so high, you'd better stay home. Whichever airline you may fly next time, the chances are your planes may be fueled by oil from countries practising death penalty. To me you are blind to many things. |
Wow, this topic is getting hot! inhiyu66 is right about it though.
Comparing brings no end, but just endless comparing. Every country/state is different from all others. Just as much as no 2 people are the same. One man's meat may be another's poison. So, to the OP, just live and let live. Cheers! |
Objectively:
I will always fly SQ in business or first, but only in Y as a last resort or intra-Asia or if booked into a non-discounted class. Getting no EQMs for sitting in the back seems like a bad deal to me:( |
