Ideas for *MR using *UK Upgrades?
Hi folks,
I still have those *UK Upgrade vouchers in my drawer and I would hate to see them going to waste after February. Now on the other hand all my scheduled travel takes place in March onwards this year - and I've just extended my Gold status. Does anybody have any good ideas for a cheap MR ex Europe (pref. ex UK, Germany or the Netherlands) on Star Alliance Airlines fares H and above? I know some of you were lucky in using them on lower fare classes, but that's a bit pushing one's luck, isn't it? Any bets on which routes are most likely in going out with empty seats in Business Class (=upgrade possible) this time of year? Thanks a lot! |
I dont understand the point unless you're particularly in need of more miles for an award.
Its not as if business intra-europe is anything special. |

That makes more sense. I should read more carefully :o
May be tough given those fare classes. If your budget stretches it may make more sense to find a cheap business fare that can be upgraded to first - eg trans atlantic. Have you checked the Mileage Run forum? |
Don't know which *A FF programme you're in but BD's Diamond Club members earn double miles on ex-LHR transatlantic flights until the end of February on UA metal. You can get returns flights for around 300 GBP, double miles and a chance to use the vouchers.

As a hint in finding eligible fares (H and above). If you go to united.com and book a flight (don't use the one on the home page, click on "More Search Options". On the next screen, in the 'More Search Options' area, there is an option on 'Upgrade Eligibility.' Change that to 'Miles-MH', and it [i]should in theory[/] bring up H fares. These are UA's lowest fare buckets for upgrading with miles. It doesn't tell you that an upgrade is available, but it does search for eligible fares. YMMV

It was posted on the BA site about using it with a L (econ plus) fare to the US for £350

Thank you for all your ideas and hints so far! :)
I'm still open for new suggestions though! ;) Also, can those *UK upgrade vouchers also be used on codeshares (if both airlines are * members - e.g. codeshare LH operated by UA)? Thanks! |
I would think in this case (LH codeshare on UA metal) it shouldn't be a problem, provided the fare class is H or above.
