28,910 rtw!

I'm psyched. I didn't actually plan it this way, but my CRWSTAR1 comes out to 28,910 miles. Itinerary is,

BKK-xNRT-JFK-xFRA-NRT-ICN-SPN-xICN-SIN-CGK-xSIN-BKK

I didn't calculate it the exact number but, having purchased the ticket in BKK, it's probably one of my more efficient $/mile in business trips.

When will you be in SPN? I'll be there in January!

I'll be there in mid-December. If things are going well, might go again in January...

Why wouldn't this be valid?

You can always backtrack within a continent. There aren't two stopovers in the same city nor too many transfers in the same city, so the OP is golden!

As others pointed out, there is nothing that skirts the rules here. In any case, SQ issued the ticket that way.

Congrats. Can you share any more details re: your ticket? Did you just walk into the SQ office in Bangkok? What was the total price? Thanks.

I booked this one through a travel agent I often use in Bangkok. I charged it to my Amex and he gave me a 1% discount against the list price. He also delivers to my hotel.

When I bought the ticket, this wasn't my original itinerary. I changed it midway through my trip while in NY. When I decided the changes I wanted, I called the individual airlines to book the new flights. If you do this, I recommend telling them you already have a ticket with the appropriate open segments. The alternative is to book everything through the carrier who will make the changes. The problem with that is that they often can't confirm flights on other airlines and it is more difficult making seat selections, further changes, etc.

After booking all the flights, I just walked into the SQ office in NY with my new itinerary printed out (used the *A mileage calculator). They are very efficient and knowledeable in that office and my ticket was reissued in about 25 minutes. I had walked in about 5 minutes before closing fully expecting to need to pick up my ticket the next day but, the SQ agent happily stayed late to complete it while I waited.

I don't remember the exact cost, but it was around US$4,400 (not bad for all that travel!).

FYR, I have purchased rtw tickets directly from SQ in Bangkok previously. In that case, I reserved the original itnerary with SQ and just walked into the office with the record number. No problem having them issue the ticket in around 30 minutes.

...

1% discount?

I'd check to see if your ticket shows your Amex number... because if it doesn't and shows only "INV", you may not be protected against travel insurance that your card covers.

He offers a 4% discount if you pay cash. I don't have my ticket with me right now but, in the past the Amex number has always shown. Regardless, I don't put much value on the Amex travel insurance.

I prefer the Oz issued ANZ Gold VISA card for CC insurance. Only $250 to be pre-spent on the card and the rest on ANY card (ie AMEX). So long as the rules are followed, they pay out if the worst happens. Lots of comment on the QF FT Board about this one.

Sounds like the mirror procedure as buying a OW DONE4 via the CX BKK office. I preferred to go through the airline office as my local CX SYD office just makes whatever bookings / changes I need (and via email with a 24 hr turnaround).

With SQ issuing your tickets, was it the first sector that dictated SQ or was it a value judgement for a long haul flight on SQ?

When I had the original ticket issued by SQ, SQ was the first sector (I also prefer them for the long hauls). I've found UA is very cooperative when it comes to following the *A rules and issuing/re-issuing tickets regardless of how many segments they have in the itinerary. SQ and OZ seem to be much more uptight about only touching the ticket if they are they next segment or original issuer.

Regarding ease of ticketing with airline or travel agent, one of the reasons I use the agent in Bangkok I do is that he provides excellent email turnaround. He also understands rtw tickets and is very good about monitoring sold out flights to grab suddenly available seats or make particular seat requests (in other words, he actually provides the services one should expect from a good travel agent).
