BKK *A lounges

Enjoyed the diversity of lounges at Bangkok for Star Alliance lounges. And none of that attitude from the lounge attendants about which ones you should use based on your status/flights.

SQ SilverKris across from D7 was definitely the favorite, with Eva coming in a close second.

Food: SQ with better presentation and slightly more choice (Nasi Lemak, shrimp pad Thai, dim sum, fish curry, Thai salad, seafood bar etc. and Haagen Daz ice cream + durian ice cream!) BR did have very good chicken green curry and pizza, Swensens ice cream.

Drinks: SQ, with champagne and full bar

Ambiance: BR, slightly, with a more creative design aesthetic. That being said SilverKris did feel fresh and contemporary.

Bathrooms: BR, since urinals looked out over the tarmac! SQs bathrooms were tiny and cramped. BR had shower, didn’t see one in SQ lounge (but could have missed it)

The TG Lounge post-covid isn’t too bad, certainly an improvement. I have also used the TK lounge for some variety, and found it quite acceptable -and usually pretty quiet.

No TK lounge pics ?

I would avoid TG lounge because their food offerings are the worst.

Yet, the TG Prestige Lounge was serving actual Champagne at the bar when we departed on a morning flight to DPS on 1 January. Admittedly, I didn't recognise the brand but I was shocked to see the word Champagne on the bottle when I was expecting a nondescript sparkling wine of indeterminate origin.

Was at the TG Lounge near gate E4 at BKK earlier today to catch the NH flight to NRT, and while it’s crowded and well worn, it’s not too bad! The food offering is acceptable but did not check out the wines + beer + liquors.

SQ remains the best by far for me, superior F&B, EVA is ok, Wines are awful, TK is poor & has a problem with AC, way too warm, TG prestige is my number 2 they upped the Wine offering

Best *A lounge for midfield terminal departure

It looks like our flight will leave from the new midfield terminal - what would be the most convenient *A lounge?

SQ & TG prestige are closest to the transit to the new terminal.

Sadly with effect from 15 April 2025, the SQ lounge in BKK will not admit any *A gold members who are not travelling on SQ flights from 8am to 9pm "due to capacity issues". Or so the front desk claimed with a straight face when the lounge appears to be empty at 10am. The wines offered in TG Prestige are a poor consolation since the F&B at TG is not at the same level.

New rule by the Airports of Thailand (AOT): Lounge for own passengers only! :eek:

In the oneworld (OW) forum, there is a similar issue of the Cathay Pacific (CX) lounge no longer admitting passengers flying on other OW carriers.

Apparently this is due to a new rule by the AOT stating that airline lounges can only accept their own passengers. This effectively cuts off access for airline alliance partners as well as third-party programs like Priority Pass. :mad:

The speculation is that the third-party lounge operators are forcing this to increase traffic to their lounges.

TIT, where the explanation usually has to do with nam.

TIT = this is true
nam = Vietnam

Fot purposes of this new Airports of Thailand (AOT) rule, I wonder if an SQ codeshare operated by TG or another *A carrier would be admitted to the SQ Silver Kris lounge?
