Priority Baggage
Does *A monitor airport compliance with priority baggage handling? Are there penalties if the airport does not comply? I ask because my observation is that US airports are not great about this for international arrivals; the latest being IST-IAD yesterday where the majority of the priority tagged bags arrived last on the carousel. Really a 'first world' problem, but it cost 30 minutes. I've found this to be an issue at IAD on a regular basis, and sometimes IAH. Yet at non-US airports, priority baggage handling is very good.

This issue is a matter bewteen airlines and each external providers (nowadays this is rarely done by airports) in charge of handling in their destination airports

Best case, it is a lack of training. Worst case, the handlers don't care. (And, by the way, domestic IAD UA flights have good priority baggage handling.) This brings me back to whether or not *A monitors such things. Priority baggage handling is a published benefit for many situations for customers of *A airlines. If the 'airport' is not complying, the entity should know. I did report this to TK via its feedback form. |

Let me clarify, I use the word 'airport' very broadly to include the physical plant, equipment, direct employees, and contractors. In the case of IAD, I presume that each *A airline contracts either with UA directly or the UA baggage contractor for baggage services as there is (almost) always a UA representative at the international baggage carousel for the *A airlines..

Your report to TK is useful , but this need to be done and escalated on such scale that TK country manager can't ignore this problem and take action You can try to reach star alliance or IAH / IAD management and ask why they allow such situation in their airports I am curious to see how path of delivery works for internaltional pax vs domestic in the USA , and compares with other major airports in the world .... |

However, the fact is there have been complaints and long discussions about priority baggage handling on FT for ages. It seems unlikely airlines put more effort into this during these challenging times. While it won't hurt to voice your concern to the airline, I doubt it will change anything with regard to prio baggage handling. You might wanna think about alternate strategies such as flying HBO. |
I doubt it. I think priority baggage, with those fluorescent flags, is mostly a scheme to make the passenger feel important, while having little actual impact.

Many of the contracts relating to bag delivery are about the first bag rather than the last one so first bag out after fifteen minutes is normal and if they get one on the belt then they've complied. That you are still waiting for a priority tagged bag after an hour is irrelevant to the SLA. It would be much better to see a SLA that had priority tagged bags out in fifteen minutes and the rest in thirty but I doubt it will happen because costs would go up.
