LH 747-4 vs. UA 787-10 in E

I'll be flying IAD-FRA-ABV in economy with my spouse and 3-year-old. The IAD-FRA leg has options on UA (787-10) or LH (747-400) that leave and arrive at around the same times, so layover time isn't really a factor. Any ideas as to which is likely to be most comfortable (or, I guess, least uncomfortable), 747 vs. 787?

Don’t have any knowledge on your specific question but something to consider above that is that by flying LH you will have greater rights in the event of IRROPS as you’ll be covered by EU261. US airlines flying TO Europe are not governed.

That's an interesting factor to consider. It's also probably helpful that the FRA-ABV leg is on LH and so with both legs on the same airline, it can be easier to get help. And as a Priority Pass holder I have access to the LH lounge in IAD, close to the departure gate, whereas I don't think the UA departure gate would be close to a lounge I have access to. (if the lounges are even a thing when I fly in August... I haven't flown since pre-covid)

so previous 1K means you have no UA or *A status left? Else you should consider E+ on UA vs. E on LH. It is E vs. E then no doubt go with LH all the way

All LH B744 are retired and will not come back into service, so the equipment will change for sure.

Correct, no status left on UA or *A. I could buy up to E+ potentially...

Oh interesting. Could it be a 747-8 instead? Or more likely A333 like the route is flying right now? I guess it might depend on ticket sales...

It also appears that the LH flights are "economy basic" and don't include free seat selection

My mistake. It is the 747-800. EWR-FRA route.

I don't think I saw a post preceding this one so I'm not sure what you're referencing. EWR-FRA was an option too (I'm closest to PHL) but the pricing is much better from IAD for my dates.

Just a persnickety comment: its 747-400 and 747-8. There is no -4 or -800.

Currently there is not B748 service to the US in summer, LAX is planned to go B748 in June. What will happen in the Winter schedule is anyones guess.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm planning my trip for August.

When is your trip? Seat and AVOD are better on UA, I think food is better on UA too at the moment.
