Is *A Gold on eBay legit?

Hey guys, I'm new here :)

I found some Star Alliance Gold Upgrade services on eBay. Name on ebay is envytravel. He's selling a 1 month upgrade for 40 bucks. His website and his eBay ratings look legit too.
I couldn't find enough information about this kind of upgrades, so I have these questions:

1. Will this work without problems?
2. What are the consequences if the airlines find out that I bought it on eBay? Could my ticket get cancelled or will they just remove the status?

I'm primarily looking for a free checked bag, but a lounge entry would be a nice addition too as I have a long transfer.

Thanks for your answers!

Welcome to FT, notsoflyer112!

Buying and selling status, upgrades, miles, and lounge passes on eBay are all against the rules for every program I am aware of.

In answer to your second question: if they find out they will cancel the ticket without notice at some point before or during your travel. If you have an FF account the airline will close that and not allow you to open another.

Difficult to say. When the listing mentions some *G benefits may not be available, this is a problem.

Your membership, with or without the status, will be revoked. Everything you earned will be forfeited.

Your ticket will not be cancelled unless it is an award ticket.

Its the same scam talked about here:

and here:

They insert a TG*G number in your pnr and hope the operating airlines doesn't notice. Good luck with that.
