help from Star Alliance experts!
Hi,
I’ve a question for Star Alliance experts! :-) We’ve a bunch of flight booked for the next 8-9 months with Star Alliance airlines and I would like to have a suggestion from you of which FF program me and my girlfriend should join…! Right now I’m silver with United (through MR Titanium, but I’ll be no more MR Titanium in 2020) and gold with Singapore Krisflyer (till end of September 2020)…my girlfriend has no-status at all. Flights: December 2019 MXP-SIN with SQ in W January 2020 SIN-MLE with Silkair in W August 2020 MXP-VFA and NOS–MXP with Ethiopian in P CPT-SKU with South African Airlink in Q SKU-JNB with South African Airlink in Q JNB- NOS with South African Airlink in Y For me I’ll use my SQ Gold status for the December and January flights…but I don’t know what to do for my girlfriend flights and for the august 2020 flights. For august 2020 does exist any kind of status-match or status-challenge that could be completed with our flights? Suggestions??? Thanks in advance!!! |
Where are you based and what airline will you fly the most next year? It makes no sense to have a bunch of different FF accounts with low balances.

We’re based in Milan (Italy), and we fly 99,9% only for leisure/vacation. Right now these are all the flights booked for the 2020. Probably we’ll take 1-2 medium/long haul flights between October 2020 and January 2021…but nothing confirmed!
I agree with you…but I don’t know if there’s a single program where I can credit (earning miles and maybe status) all the flights above…! |
It is very hard to say, but you should certainly stick with only one programme. Generally UA will be more generous in earning and spending (miles never expire) but you will need to figure out if you are likely to achieve status with the spending requirements. SQ miles expire after three years, and they can be harder to use. M&M would be another option if you live in Italy (using LH, LX, or OS), but you'd need to see if you will qualify for any status. Short answer: unless you fly significantly more than 25,000 miles and not in the cheapest economy classes, it probably doesn't matter much where you park you miles.
