TAP and Star Gold - how does it work?
 

Hi everybody,

I'm a Star Alliance Gold member who will soon be flying with TAP Portugal from Milan to Lisbon.

Regarding checked baggage I encountered conflicting information on the Star Alliance website and TAP website.

The TAP website says that as a Gold I can bring an extra piece of baggage on all flights, the Star Alliance one says this is not valid for Tap Discount fares. Which one is correct?

Assuming I can't bring it - if I add a piece of baggage, can I bring a second one?

*A site is correct. I think the problem is that TAP's site is poorly written. You have 0 bags allowance + 0 extra (*G allowance) with Discount tickets - provided you don't have any other *A flights on the same ticket.

TAP has a site for checking baggage allowance - http://book.flytap.com/bagsim/BaggageStart.aspx?_l=en.

Since the middle of 2017, *G no longer provides a free bag if flying TAP on a "Discount" branded fare. On the baggage calculator, only Victoria Miles Gold provides a free bag.

This is a very disappointing trend among *A carriers like LH, TAP, and now SAS.
