Which programme is most benificial for Air India Flights?
Hi all,
This is my first post so feel free to change the place it is in if i have posted incorrectly. I fly Air India regularly, will probably do around 40-50000 miles a year just on Air India. I was wandering which loyalty programme i should use, it must be star alliance. I have considered Aegan, SAS, Asiana,Air Canada and THAI however i would like to know if there are any better programmes. I am currently on Air India flying returns however i find it useless and only get enough miles to redeem domestic. Thank you. |

Your best bet is to look at the actual fares you'll be flying on Wheretocredit.com. There is a huge disparity in Air India flight earnings depending on the fare level, they are pretty stingy on cheapo economy fares. Once you've determined that, then you can start looking at which program has the better spend rates. Just as an example, if you get 10% credit in program X or 75% credit for the same fare in program Y, but program Y costs 50% more to redeem than program X, you're still better overall in Program Y.

i will be earning 100% on each flight so around 10000 miles per round trip and this is why i am struggling. I know united has very low redemptions howver if i fly business the accrual rate is low. I would like to do SAS but i cannot see how much redemption is because i am not a member with them. |

Frequent flyer miles/points are not equal to or burn. They are not 1 to 1. If a multi segment award check the rules/cost carefully. With some ffp’s it can be 2 or more awards or cost more ff miles/points than a direct flight. If the award is on partner airline it may cost more miles/points than an award on the ffp airline. Some ffps/airlines/routes can have cash surcharges on award flight, in addition to real taxes. Some carrier imposed surcharges can trigger additional real taxes when the flight changes from non-revenue to revenue. Real taxes/regulatory fees are the same for all airlines on the same route/class. |
Where are you actually based at and where might you fly on Star Alliance otherwise? That could certainly sway things as well.
