suggestions for RTW
 

The journey is essentially SF0-BLR-PVG-SFO, with the following routing:

SFO-FRA-BLR (on LH)
BLR-SIN-PVG (on SQ)
PVG-SFO (UA)

Any suggestions if this is the optimal route and how much I can expect to pay?

You have to have at least 3 stopovers and take 10 days to do the RTW fare.

Please note that RTW's have fixed prices for each starting country, and will vary only according to each of the 3-4 available mileage levels.

There is a FAQ section on RTW's that is very useful, check that out.

Also, to get better suggestions, can you tell us what your objectives are - mileage maximization, status level obtention, carrier preference, etc.

regarding the 3-stopover-rule, this should be sufficient since the start/end of the rtw counts as one stopver.

Huh? Your start point is origin. Your end point is destination. Anything in between is either transfer, stopover or ARUNK. No airline fare of any sort considers a origin/destination point on a ticket as a stopover. Or did you mean something else?

To clarify, my objectives are simple :-) I have a business trip coming up (to PVG) and am thinking of combining this into a visit to BLR. Since I'm based in SFO, I decided on the following routing (since I am a member of LH M&M and UA MP).

SFO-FRA-BLR (on LH)
BLR-SIN-PVG (on SQ)
PVG-SFO (on UA)

This itinerary covers 20792 miles, well under the 29000 allowed for a bass level RTW. You can easily add more destinations along the way. You can also do a few domestic trips in the US, as long as you don't have two stoppovers in any one city, including the Bay Area.

If you start out of YVR, instead of SFO, with the following routing:

YVR-FRA-BLR (on LH)
BLR-SIN-PVG (on SQ)
PVG-YVR (AC)
or
PVG-ICN-YVR (OZ and AC or SQ)
or
PVG-NRT-YVR (NH and AC)

this would total about 19582 (a few hundred more if you connect) miles, and you can get a Star Light fare, which allows up to 20000 miles. The fares ex canada are much less expensive. And all you would need to do is buy a cheap roundtrip from SFO to YVR to connect to and from.

A Starlite gives you 26,000 miles to play with and not 20,000, which was obviously a typo as zrs70 is normally on top of things!!
If you've got the time, maximise the mileage allowed as much as you can - there is plenty of scope and gaps in the itinerary to earn yourself more miles.
