Any info on when US will join *A?
 
When it was annouced that US was joining *A, there was no official date, just a time frame for them to join.

May 31th : "While no firm date has been set for US Airways' official entry into Star Alliance, it is anticipated that the carrier will become part of the world's leading airline alliance within the next nine to 12 months."
Does anybody have an update?

I'd like to use them for a 12/24 - 1/1 trip to Paris but only if they are part of *A.
9 months from 6/1/03 makes it 3/1/2004. So I guess I won't fly US.

Everything that I have seen says US's join date is 01-Jan-2004.

That's fast as most full memberships of * take 9 - 12 months to get the incoming carrier up to speed, systems integrated and all that sort of thing, before they become full members. Then again, they're already pretty chummy with UA, so maybe half of that battle is won already. I certainly wouldn't expect them any time this year at least.
Will be interesting to see how it goes and when it comes into effect. MX AC US and UA make a pretty good team in Nth Am.

There's a recent discussion about this on the US forum.

The balance of opinion seems to think that it will be by the end of Q1 2004.

It sounds like it won't happen for my Christmas trip. Too bad http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif I wanted to give US a try.
I'll fly UA instead and will try US in Q2 2004. By then, they should be in *A

I currently have a lot of miles split on AC and US. Does anyone know if US might/will comp me the AC status miles I have earned this year towards increased status upon joining *A?

I will be GP on US shortly and almost "Prestige" on AC at year-end. Add the two and I could be US1. It sounds like a stretch, but would make sense in terms of promoting customer goodwill. Have any other alliance additions done something similar?

Does anyone know if US GP will translate into *Gold? I presume so, but am not sure.

I flew 2 BUF-IAD-LAX on UA in the last month and UA was great. I really liked the E+ seat. Planes borded quickly, were on time and there was a hot breakfast. The price was also perfectly right
This is not what I call bad at all.
So please do not issue statements like that out of the blue. This is not constructive critisism.

Based on the UA structure, it will.

I was on a US flight recently and the safety video also had a *A promo, where they said they were anticipating entry in Q104. I'll bet on March.

I don't know about that. I fly WAS to SE FL frequently. US serves a small plastic glass of soda, no food, and no music. I read on the US forum, no music on any of the narrow bodies. I think I was on an Airbus 319-20.

It's my opinion and it was delivered tongue in cheek.

Both UA nor US have gone downhill a lot over the past several years, UA especially.

The fact that you had a good flight is anecdotal. Read what the heavy fliers on the UA forum are saying...when they're not whinging about the value of the SWU going down they complain of rude and indifferent FAs, worn out seats, arrogant check-in staff, and a general who-gives-a-sh!t attitude within the company.

I fly UA maybe 8/12 times a year, generally from the UK to various points in the US. I usually pay for C when on business and E+ when travelling for leisure. I can tell you that both products have declined remarkably in the last 3 years. Yes the pitch may be a bit better but the whole flying experience is just not great.

I have a choice and am increasingly leaning towards using BA. The reason I don't is that I need intra-NA flights as well.

US is not much better, but they have not quite reached the desperation that UA are at.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about.
