One more tricky RTW question
 

On *RTWs surface segments counts towards total mielage, but do they count towards total segment count?

I'm hitting the roof and I'm one segment short of getting it "my" way, and I'm wondering about inserting a surface-segment instead of a flight (one fly SNA-LAX and more or less walk back to SNA http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif )

I believe they do NOT count towards total segment count.

well, even more complicated to be sure about the solution.

In some respect all airports in/around Los Angeles (includes LAS and SNA) count as one and the same (example only one stopover, LAX and another stopover at SNA would exceed that one).

I have never been 'charged' surface miles when arriving (international) at JFK and departing afterwards from LGA (same rule for the 4 NYC airports: LGA, EWR, JFK and White Plains count as one).

But on the other hand, a UA Express flight LAX-SNA is possible (and charged with 36 miles).
