Surface segments with RTW
I understand that surface segments are allowed, but are calculated in the mileage. So,
- if no Star carrier flies a segment, will they calculate the shortest route or the shortest possible one with Star (connecting somewhere)? - can the last segment of an itin be surface? In particular, can I practically end the itin in a different country from the origin, and "virtually" add a surface segment back to the origin country? Well, I read the fare rules more carefully. Rule 9I says:
Intermediate surface sectors permitted... If a surface sector attracts more than one TPM the lower applies Also, if I decide to do a sector on surface, will the origin of that sector count as a stopover for the purpose of "no more than one stopover in the same city"? the very shortest route is calculated. Australian Example: for Melbourne-Sydney direct miles only are calculated (not MEL-New Zealand-Sydney). [This message has been edited by Rudi (edited 06-15-2003).] |

No - but you can not use it (throw away: I would officially cancel it after my last flight). |
Thanks for the answers, Rudi, but I'm afraid it won't work. My intention was to start the RTW in Cairo and end it in TLV, with a last surface segment TLV-CAI. I guess doesn't work. Which means I'll have to add TLV-VIE-CAI and throw then away; that's about 3000 miles.

Originally posted by shuly: I need some help with the interpretation of the rule, but I guess it reads: no, you can't have the last segment as a surface sector. Right? Also, if I decide to do a sector on surface, will the origin of that sector count as a stopover for the purpose of "no more than one stopover in the same city"? Both the point of arrival and the point of departure with a surface sector linking them are counted as only the one stopover under number of stopovers rule. However, both points are counted in city stops rule and any further stops at either city later in the itinerary are not allowed. Cheers. |
