Recently came across this site and was impressed by its clarity and details. I would like comments on price comparison and advantages/disadvantages from our panel of experts

ROUTING :

Travel requires and is limited to one flight over the Atlantic Ocean and one flight over the Pacific Ocean
Travel must originate and terminate in Hong Kong.
Backtracking within an area is permitted, i.e. stopovers need not be in the same global direction but are subject to the allotted MPM for the journey. However, backtracking between areas is not permitted even if such backtracking fits within the allotted MPM for the journey.
Intermediate surface sectors are permitted and are at passengers own expense.
Surface sectors must be included in the mileage.
Higher intermediate rule does not apply.


STOPOVERS :

A minimum of 3 stopovers is required, of which at least 2 must be taken outside country of origin.
Maximum 10 free stopovers permitted.
Exception 1: A maximum of 5 free within Continental U.S. / Alaska / Hawaii / Canada / U.S. Virgin Islands / Puerto Rico / Mexico.
Exception 2: A maximum 2 free in Europe plus 1 additional free in Amsterdam.
Unlimited additional stopovers are permitted at a charge of USD100 per stop. Stopover charges are to be shown on the ticket as S
No more than 2 stopovers are allowed at the *same city.
Enroute stopovers are not permitted at *city of origin.
Intermediate surface sectors, from the point in which travel ends to the point in which travel resumes, count as one stopover.

UPGRADE SUPPLEMENT :

USD 700 Upgrade from Economy to Business Class on one flight coupon per itinerary.
USD1,000 Upgrade from Business to First Class for each upgrade flight coupon.
USD1,700 Upgrade from Economy to First Class on one flight coupon per itinerary.

Notes:

Upgrade permitted prior to or after ticket issuance.
Upgrade amount to be shown on the ticket as Q shown on the fare ladder after the city where the service is performed and the flight coupon to reflect the upgraded fare basis code.
Applicable to NW/KL only passenger may upgrade from M to J when paying the applicable Economy to First class surcharge or C to J when paying the applicable Business to First class surcharge.
USD150 reissue fee plus the upgrading supplement apply if the upgrade is after ticket issue or after departure.

Single/double open jaws, round trips, circle trips not permitted
Constructions with add-ons not permitted
End-on-end combinations not permitted


TICKET VALIDITY :

One year

RESERVATIONS / TICKETING :

Reservation for the flight from the point of origin to the first international stopover point must be confirmed prior to departure. Subsequent sectors may be left open and confirmed at any time, subject to availability.
Tickets must be purchased at least 7 days before departure. When reservations are made within 7 days of departure, ticketing is required within 48 hours after booking and at least 1 day prior to departure, whichever occurs first.
When the class of service is not available over a particular portion on the route, the passengers will be accommodated in the next lower class of service. No refund will be made in these cases.
For travel on a Business Class fare where a Business Class compartment is not offered on some flights, the passenger will be accommodated in *Economy Class.
* Exception: For travel within North America/Puerto Rico, passenger will be accommodated in the first class compartment on NW and CO, subject to availability.

ENDORSEMENTS :

The original and the reissued tickets must be annotated NONEND/NONREF/RTW APEX in the endorsement box of the ticket.
Endorsements between participating carriers are not required.


CHANGES :

Before departure

After ticketing - fee applies:
Change for outbound flight up to the first international stopover is permitted for a fee of USD150 per transaction provided the new itinerary meets all requirements of the Round-the-World fare and the ticket is reissued at least 1 day prior to original outbound travel date or at least 1 day prior to the new outbound travel date, whichever comes first.
Change to all other flights not requiring ticket reissuance is permitted free of charge.
Changes to all other flights requiring ticket reissuance are subject to a charge of USD150 per transaction plus any additional fare amount required for change in the itinerary. TPM for the new routing must be recalculated from point of origin.
Fees do not apply in the case of death/illness of passenger, immediate family member or travel companion when substantiated by a death/medical certificate issued in the country where the death/illness occurs.
At any time, passenger may upgrade the entire journey from the point of origin to Business Class upon payment of the applicable fare difference plus USD150 change fee.
After departure:

Changes that require ticket reissuance is permitted for a fee of USD150 per transaction plus any additional fare amount required for change in the itinerary. TPM for the new routing must be recalculated from point of origin.

CANCELLATION :

After ticketing:

Cancellation fee equivalent to 10% of fare paid applies.
The non-refundable amount cannot be used towards the purchase of another fare/ticket.
Fees do not apply in the case of death/illness of passenger, immediate family member or travel companion when substantiated by a death/medical certificate issued in the country where the death/illness occurs.
After departure:

The refund, if any, will be the difference between the fares paid and the applicable normal fare for transportation used, less 10 percent.

FREE BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE :

2 pieces of checked baggage for the whole journey.
The sum of the three dimensions shall not exceed 158 cm for each checked baggage.
The maximum weight of any bag shall not be more than 32 kg.

Although this is not about Star Alliance RTW tickets, I, as a Star Alliance customer, would find it interesting to understand the differences, advantages and disadvantages of this RTW ticket compared to *A RTW tickets - perhaps it could make a lot of sense to combine two of these. Therefore, thanks for posting this here. It will probably be moved, but I would have never found it if you had not posted it here. Thanks.
