*A Options to Delhi?

I originally posted this in the United forum but I still have questions.
___________

I need to go to Delhi for business. My company tells me that its preferred vendor for int'l travel is NW/KL as it has negotiated a 37% discount that gets us biz class for about $4,500.

I am certain that I can fly my preferred carrier (or alliance of carriers) AS LONG AS I cost-justify it.

Any suggestions on how I can go ORD-DEL and back on Star Alliance carriers, on a mileage earning ticket, in business class or better, for less than about $4,500?

Mike

Date is somewhat flexible but sometime in June is the best bet.

I usually do:

Try this.
1) US to BKK one way C class (UA)(can be fare basis D class)
2) BKK-DEL-BKK C class (TG)
3) BKK-USA one way C class (UA) (can be fare basis D class)

should work out same or cheaper than what you had with NW.

Edited to clarify booking class

Do you buy the BKK-DEL-BKK ticket and the BKK-ORD ticket in Thailand? I got a one-way ORD-BKK fare of about $2600, and a one-way BKK-ORD fare of $2100, both on united.com.

Okay, out of ORD:

make sure you book flights that have D fare class availibility. The fare basis you want is DXBKK (base = $2150) or DWBKK ($2640 Base fare). You have to travel on Mon-Thu for the DXBKK. If you pick a Mon-Thu date and make sure that there is D class availibility then you will get around $2175 for ORD-BKK

BKK-DEL-BKK, should be around $850

BKK-ORD, again, book in D fare class, make sure that there is availibility in D (don't think your are restricted on Mon-Thu on this) and the fare basis is DBKK ($1643 Base fare).

I did a quick price out on June 11.
ORD-BKK $2177.70
BKK-ORD $1678.30

Hope this helps.

PS. If you are new to the whole fare class thing, just call united and make sure they book you flights with D availibility.
