Best * program for 55K miles promotion?
Sorry if this has been asked already.
My impression is that of the 3 * Alliance carriers who have announced their participation in the 55,555 miles promo so far, Air Canada has the most attractive offer (independently of the respective programs' other advantages), based on the following criteria:
- awards on AC can be redeemed at levels similar to UA, and lower than LH (i.e. 55K miles yield better awards on AC/UA than on LH)
- AC does not require a transoceanic roundtrip as UA does
- AC did not post any restrictions on fare classes as UA did
Any comments/corrections?

I undestand your AC-UA comparison.
A comparison with LH's miles&more miles and status is much more complex (one example: upgrades with miles and/or vouchers are good on any fare).
Have a look at BlondeBombers StarAlliance comparison sheet http://members.shaw.ca/deercroft/starall02.html

For me, I'd use the miles for trips Australia-USA, which is 60000 miles on UA and LH, 70000 for MX & RG, and if im not mistaken 75000 on AC. I had planned to do a crazy 29000 RTW with 25 segments for $2889 AUD, earning on 5 programs the 55555 bonus, but UA has the condition of one intercontinental roundtrip on a single airline, which has put a spanner in the works.

If LH's promo really considers Austrian, Lauda and Tyrolean as 3 different partners it would be the easiest to fullfill the criteria with. UA and AC handle all three as one carrier...
As *alliance has promoted this offer, most partners will offer the promo to their ff's. Maybe for more planning we should wait a little bit...?

A fabulous mileage run, from Australia, if it really does comply with the rules (the poster seems to have researched it thoroughly and thinks it does!). Much better than the RTW.

Skystar: you could very well be right, though I'm sure i read on the LH site 60,000 using UA.
Number_6: If I was doing a mileage run for miles, then that's definitely the way to go. However, I intended to use the trip to visit friends and family in USA, Canada and Israel, and tour some of Europe.
If i lived in PER i could use a RTW and fly the intercontinental roundtrip, satisfying UA's requirement.
