RTW mileage calculation clarification....
Please help! In totalling the miles, is it strictly "as the crow flies"? Or do minimum miles take precedent?
For example, is SFO-LAX 337 or 500 miles? If my RTW comes out to 29,004, will those 4 miles be graced? |
SFO-LAX will be counted as 337miles(or 338 according to http://www.webflyer.com/milemarker/getmileage.cgi
If your ticket will be 29.004 you will have to pay the higher price. |
Perhaps not. I had 29,003 on one trip and it was waived to be ok for a Star1. I do admit my agent had to exert a small amount of influence on a certain asian carrier (TG) to get it through (UA and AC, who were the other airlines on the ticket were totally cool about it, but TG dug their heels in for a bit). If all ticketed airlines agree it can be waived. I wouldn't try this on purpose though. This was a few years ago when the fares were kind of new, so it was prob. a bit easier to get away with stuff like that.
And actual distance is counted, not FF minimum miles (otherwise you wouldn't get very far if LH was ticketing !!) ------------------ RichardMEL, UA 1K A Star Alliance Member. |
