overstaying a rtw connection

I am currently on a first class rtw. I have a nrt-hkg-nrt-sin routing with less than 24 hours in hkg and nrt since I've already stopped once in those cities.

What are the consequences if I go to hkg and business circumstances force me to stay an extra day? Can I use the rest of the ticket (e.g. nrt-sin-bkk)?

I would cancel either the segment to HKG or the next one from HKG and buy a seperate one way ticket for that segment, and leave the mileage calculation for the entire rtw-ticket as it is (counting the cancelled segment as a 'on land' connection).

depending on the mood of the check-in agent, you just may show up a day later and ask for check-in. you only had to pay the departure tax in HKG.
although that worked for me already, keep in mind that this is risky.

Also, as I have found several times that if you ring the airline to simply re-book your HKG-NRT to a day later, the agent will not look too closely at the rules. They see the ticket class and realise that it's rebookable and just do it.

It's not a 100% guarantee but it's worth a try and has worked for me several times.

Otherwise just cancel the segment as Rudi says. So why not try?

Risky but I have just bowled up to the airport a day later and showed an innocent smile!

More often I have just come a day earlier and no questions are ever asked.

Thanks for everyone's replies.
If I understand correctly, as long as I cancel the "connecting" hkg-nrt segment (which would be illegal due to stay longer than 24 hours), I won't have any problem using the rest of the ticket?

I guess the airline won't track whether I used a different carrier or routing.

Of course, if I end up in that situation, I'll probably just try the walk-up scenario. It's worked for me many times with out of order coupons and expired (more than 1 year old) tickets. I've just never tried it with a rtw and didn't want to get socked on one of my later flights with a some huge unexpected charge. With an old coupon, I know my worst case is simply being charged for a new ticket. I wasn't sure about the worst case on a rtw.
