Why are *A RTW so expensive ex-UK??
Last year I booked a *A RTW in Biz for GBP2,600. I had to ticket it early as the price was jumping to GBP3,099. I notice this year that it has risen again to GBP3,199. Looking at Dorian's RTW price comparison chart I see I can get the same ticket ex-AMS for GBP2,500, ex-CDG for GBP2,600 or ex-BRU for GBP2,400!! All of these destinations are a 90 minute flight from my home airport of Edinburgh. Getting to any of these airports for me is no problem as there are direct flights on a choice of carrier, most of whom I can use miles on.
Does anyone know if I can get a ticket issued by a UK travel agent for a *A RTW commencing in one of those coutries, or do I have to find a good English speaking Travel Agent in my country of choice? What are *A up to?? Who sets these prices? |
You must ticket and purchase in country of departure.

I do this quite often - if you need any tips let me know.
At the moment, France and Germany seem to be quite good deals and rumour has it Spain is cheap also but I haven't looked myself. |

Sweden and Spain are the current leaders followed by France.

I contacted *A through their web site to ask why there was such a difference in fares between the UK and the rest of Europe. I received this reply from a company call Brierley & Partners. Looking at their website they would appear to be a PR organisation.
Thank you for your query. The factors that drive airline pricing are varied - and change by market (as evidenced by your research). Some of the reasons include: * Demand for business travel out of the UK * Costs and overheads for airlines operating in the UK, and in particular, out of major airports like London Heathrow * The supply of premium scheduled services out of the UK to major origin points - as compared to other European points These drivers, plus others, combine to set the prices out of the UK market. Regards If anyone else in the UK would care to add weight to my complaint the OFT can be emailed on mailto:[email protected][email protected] |

So could I book a RTW starting lhr-jfk-sfo and have it ticketed in Amsterdam and have my brother pick it up and post it to me, or do i have to go ams-lhr-jfk-sfo ? with me taking a cheap flight to amsterdam ??

unfortunately the ticketing place (in AMS) will not lower the price for a rtw-* ticket starting in LHR, but only for travels starting in the Netherlands.
|
So but a cheap ticket to AMS pick up ticket then make sure that the last portion either Joberg or SIN goes to LHR and then AMS and never use the last bit ??

jongar: I good friend of mine has (several times) done similar 'things' and was never 'hurt'. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

jongar--don't throw away the last sector. Use it to start your next RTW.

Dont forget Ireland is 20% cheaper than the UK too with the exchange rates as they are.
When I looked around Easter, Scandinavian countries were cheaper then Eire, but the hassle/cost of starting there, made Dublin the preferred choice...especially as I did Ryan air from Gatwick for £5 plus tax |
