This rule is quite simple to understand. The fare is called Round-The-World. Once you returm to your starting point, you had been aroundthe world, right ?
No way to even THINK about returning to MAN and then make ... just a rt to SA.

I think I am beginning to understand. So I take it that if I start in MAN(UK), then I can backtrack in Europe as many times as I like BEFORE leaving the continent to continue the RTW itinerary, as long as I do not exceed my miles or permitted stopovers

no stopover in the starting continent - but (without any stop longer than 23 hours 59 minutes) I spent once 4 nights in Europe before leaving the continent (ZRH-MUC, night, MUC-BRE, night, BRE-FRA, night, FRA-CDG, night and than to the US West-coast.

Rudi, if you aren't allowed stopovers in the starting continent, why would my itinerary (the original one in the this thread) work? The itinerary starts in London, with stopovers in Madrid and Vienna before moving on to Delhi, and the next continent. Just when I thought I was figuring it all out...

well, I hope kempis that you are correct (that would mean that they changed the rules somewhen in the second half of 2000). I'll inquire with LH next week.

Rudi, I had my TA print out the fare rules, they clearly state that
These are the only stopover limitations that are based on the continent of origin.
FOR TRAVEL ORIGINATING IN AUSTRALIA-STOPOVERS PERMITTED AT AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL GATEWAYS ONLY.
----
FOR TRAVEL ORIGINATING IN EUROPE-NOT MORE THAN 5 STOPOVERS PERMITTED WITHIN EUROPE
----
FOR TRAVEL ORIGINATING IN NEW ZEALAND-STOPOVERS PERMITTED AT NEW ZEALAND INTERNATIONAL GATEWAY ONLY.

That's not what I meant (and wrote)... no stopovers in the COUNTRY of origin. Last September I was not allowed a stopover in MUC (starting in DUS. Once again a stopover being less than 24 hrs.
