when LH announced upcoming Lufthansa-Air China code-share flights today, the media questioned LH also about Air China being a possible candidate to join StarAlliance LH wouldn't comment the question if Air China is (or could become) a candidate for joining StarAlliance. LH's CEO has mentioned several times in the past, that China is still a 'white (empty) spot' on the StarAlliance map ...

who wants to fly Air China anyway???

Is *Alliance going to follow the footsteps of Qualiflyer ( Turkish,...) and Skyteam (Aeroflot, Korean Air...)by including such an airline???

Turkish is no longer a Qualiflyer member (no status miles in the Qualiflyer program anymore, since this sep-2000) ...

Well, LordLuck, when you do business in China, you are often left with very few options. CA isn't great, but they are still better than any of the options going right now.

It is simply impractical to transit HKG every time you want to get between SHA and BJS, or BJS and XIY.

Oh serious poster. I do not believe that TK was or has ever been a Star alliance member.

China = Over 1 BILLION people.

New Zealand = 3 million

Australia = 18 million

Austria - What - 10 million or so?

AC*SE - i agree that it's impactical to transit HKG every time but in some cases (Air China being a relatively decent option compared to other mainland carriers) it IS worth the extra flight and time required http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

and hfly - it is obvious that rudi has made a mistake (writing *A instead of Qualiflyer) but is it REALLY necessary for you comment -in a sarcastic manner? i mean if you have some problem with Rudi please take it up with him by email or whatever but don't waste space in an otherwise constructive forum. thanks

If/when Air China joins * I am only missing an african airline. For the moment it seems like South African is the most logical choice but you never know. Otherwise I believe that there is only room for 1-3 more airlines in * then they have to close it.

Does that mean that LH members can now earn points on Air China flights (esp. within china), or only on co-branded codeshare flights?

Though Dragon Air is still my first choice of flying into China, I know Air China has a superior safety record with no death accident involved. However, regarding the in-flight service, I would agree that it is still behind what we are all expecting from a major airline.

from LH's press statement (in german) (ath this time only) international flights unter the shared flight-number (but at least those flights/miles count for LH-status = StarAlliance status too).
