rtw includes SIA and ANA starting oct-1-99.

Effective October 31, 1999, the RTW fares will also include travel on ANA's and Singapore Airlines'.

Star Alliance recently announced a new priced RTW economy class-only ticket (a 'lite' version)which covers a distance of a maximum 26,000 miles. It is already available for travel originating in some Star Alliance markets (not in Europe yet). Tickets must be purchased seven days prior to departure. This lite rtw-version journey must have a minimum of three stopovers and a maximum of five (15 with the normal rtw-tickets) stopovers.

There are other rules which apply to both these Star Alliance RTW fares. The itinerary has to include one Transatlantic as well as one Transpacific crossing. A minimum stay of 10 days must generally be observed and return travel from the last international stopover point must commence no later than twelve months after departure. The journey must end in the same country as it began.

Members of Star Alliance frequent flyer programs will earn mileage on their RTW flights.

ANA already has the Star Alliance logo on some of its planes (in SFO yesterday). Be nice when SIA joins the crowd and gives status points and miles (we hope).

Has anyone been able to get confirmation / booking details from any existing *A member about the SQ inclusion in RTW fares from 31 OCT I have not had any luck with UA here in the States. They all claim that they have not heard about this??

If anyone has had success please inform as I am waiting on buying a set of tickets and if SQ is in then I will so for a STAR 3 fare.

the only ones being already updated in Zurich are the Singapore people (LH in ZRH and UA in FRA didn't know - but thanked me for letting them know). I could book today with Singapore a rtw-*A in Zurich (starting traveling nov-1-99) - but I will not include Singapore until their miles count as status too somewhen in spring 2000.

call Singapore Airlines in the US - they (probably/hopefully) should know. At least they know here in Switzerland for rtw tickets starting in Europe.

UPDATE 26/10/99

As of today in the USA I have spoken with the following airlines reagrding the SQ participation:

UA - confirms NH but no info at all on SQ
LH - same as UA
AN/NZ - same as UA
SQ - confirms info on joining as of 31 OCT however they have NO fare / rule info as of today. Fare desk has promised to call tomorrow to update.

Based on my findings I think the US is far behind on the updating of the fare. The best bet (as Rudi mentioned) seems to be SQ.

If anybody has had better luck please post.

From SIA's "media report"

Singapore Airlines Promotes Dream Of Seamless International
Travel
15/10/1999

Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced today that it will join the Star Alliance network
as part of its global strategy to provide its customers with improved services and
benefits, including "seamless" air travel worldwide.

SIA is expected to join the Star Alliance as a full member by April 2000.

Said SIA Deputy Chairman, Dr Cheong Choong Kong: "Our entry into Star will
substantially strengthen the Alliance's global route network, especially in Asia, the
Asia-Pacific region and Europe. We are offering our customers an opportunity to
travel further, faster, and more conveniently than ever before."

The most immediate benefit to customers will be SIA's participation in the Star
Alliance's popular "Round-the-World" and "StarLite" fares from 31 October 1999.

These fares become more attractive with the inclusion of SIA's wide international
network.

Dr Cheong revealed the plan during celebrations in Tokyo to mark the official entry
of All Nippon Airways into the Star Alliance network.

bernie - thanks for posting the release. however it has been widely circulated in this forum the problem is that the airlines don't seem to know about it yet!

With ref to my last post I received a call from SQ today CONFIRMING that fromMonday 1 NOV 1999 they will participate in the STAR RW fares and that they will be available in the US.

She said the news has been slow spreading through the ranks but assured that come Monday it will be in the system. Hopefully now other airlines follow suit.

Indogulf -

Did SQ ratedesk by any chance mention whether status miles would be credited on SQ w/ the start-up of the RTW fare?

As much as I want to fly SQ, I'd take TG and premier miles over SQ.

greg - sorry no status miles until April 2000. I did ask but no go

But for me the addition of SQ offers me more choices from Asia (via SIN) to India. As of now only TG flies to DEL and CCU and that too not daily.

So no status miles but you do get normal miles + class of service bonus. And it's only for @ 6 months.

Ok ,.. everyone agree that there'll be NO status miles until Apr/2000 in the SQ flights.

A question remains to be answered though . Do we GET ANY miles when flying SQ in STAR RTW fares EVEN if the program is not parter with SQ ?
Explain:
SQ has agreements with LH,UA,SK,NZ,AN and "MOU" with AC.

What if I am going RTW with STAR using RG, NH, or TG (ans AC?)fflyer programs ?? Do I still get miles for the sections that I fly SQ ?

The fare rules don't say anything about it !

THanks

Mauricio

What I know for sure is, that LH gives full mileage credit (except for the cheap coach seats) and service class bonuses as well.
I rember there is a promotion going on with UA MP. Can't tell with the other * members.
