IATA charge
 

I just checked my credit card and I was charged an extra $211.93 CAD for a YVR to HND ANA flight that costed $733 CAD. I have never heard this before, any of you guys know anything about an IATA fee? Booked through webjet.ca

In retrospect, I am not going to book through a third party site again.

Confused as well, I think you're going to have to give a bit more of a breakdown of what charges you're seeing. Additionally, where did you purchase, NH directly or a third party site.

In short, never seen an IATA charge but could be something else mislabeled.

Could it be that the ticket price (733 $) was in US$ while, as you state, your CC charges were in Canadian $ ?

Call your cc and dispute this.

It's a really bad idea to dispute a charge on an active ticket until you know that the amount is incorrect. If the charge is legitimate, the carrier will simply either cancel the ticket or demand an add/collect at check-in. A nasty surprise either way.

AA CC dispute is not a legal determination as to whether money is owed. It is simply a very useful means of informally resolving disputes. But, on active tickets or where services have not yet been rendered, it carriers significant risk to the consumer.

With 'dispute' I meant ask the cc to provide further details regarding the second transaction, raising the fact that you don't have a receipt for the CAD211 amount, only for the former. I don't mean get them to take it up with the webjet.ca. Perhaps I should have said 'query'.

Webjet probably has an agreement with ANA where they can sell the ticket for $733 (net fare as per contract they have with ANA) plus a markup of $211.93.

The reason why it probably showed up as "IATA Charge" is because the "service fee"module of Webjet's GDS was not properly setup. When properly setup, the charge should have showed up as "Webjet".

Also, it might be possible that their website incorrectly showed the "net" price that they have with ANA.
