There are no 'UA gates' the system in the UK is very different and each flight is allocated a gate. All the lounges are fine.

Although personally, I think the LH Senator lounge has the best food section for *G in Y. But it's located back in the "A" section, a 15 minute walk away.

Stop at the Lufthansa lounges first, then go over to the UA lounge. UA lounge food will probably be more plentiful and American style, while the booze and some foods will be better in the Lufthansa clubs. You have to go through the Lufthansa Business lounge to get to the Senator Lounge, so look around the business lounge first. The food can be different in there and you might find something you like that isn't in the Senator Lounge.

In recent weeks I've flown LX, OS and LO from B gates. all on narrow bodies as well as SQ on the A380 and I think over time I've used all the B gates but I never fly United.

Please do tell us which gates these are? I think you will find the B or for that matter A gates in T2 are multi-use and none are the domain of United or for that matter any other airline. It's common that AC use A gates even though their lounge is in B. The only aircraft that cannot use the A gates is the A380 which of course United don't have.

I'm not saying they're not used by other airlines, but there are certain gates that UA uses and the rest it doesn't. The corridor where the UA club is is where all the UA flights depart out of. Can't remember the actual gate #s but that's where they are.

Pete, would you be happier if zeer0 writes that United uses the B gates or that United uses the B concourse? In the US, the terms are interchangeable for the most part.
Let us know if you see a United plane at the A concourse/gates.

I just had to book a flight from LHR to the Continent and specifically chose a Star Alliance airline (I'm Star Gold) just to use the lounges at T2. I'll probably arrive 2 hours early just to hit a couple of the lounges.

Thanks. I thought SQ would lead the pack. I have been to the SQ lounge at HKG and SFO, which I prefer (food-wise) over UA. If I were to compare the LH lounge at FRA and IAD to the SQ lounge in HKG and SFO, I probably would prefer SQ, too. In any event, I will try to drop by the LH lounge if I arrive early enough to lounge hop.

I think that the buzz about the United Club stems from comparing it to the poor quality of United Clubs elsewhere in the system. On that score it's great. But compared to the other *A lounges at LHR, I'm not so sure it comes out on top.

I'm flying with my wife into LHR on BA early in the morning and flying out that evening from T2 on Croatia. We'll each have USA-style carry-on luggage with us: a rollerboard and a personal item. Ideally, we'd like to store these items and head to London for the day. But official luggage storage seems stupidly expensive: like 11 pounds per bag, so we'd be looking at 44 pounds. Ouch. I suppose I could check my bags with Croatia in the morning, but that seems risky to me (I'm not sure I'd count on any airline to babysit my bags for a day and put them on the right flight).
So I'm wondering if there's any T2 lounge that has secured luggage check facilities? Like lockers with a key? And even if they do, could I get into T2 in the morning, leave my luggage, and then come back later that day? Like would Immigration find this weird?
Thanks for any advice.

First, you could do Flight Connections to get to T2 and get to any of the T2 lounges. However, you would encounter some problems then leaving T2 to go to London. It is possible but you need to find someone to escort you to Immigration and I wouldn't know how to do that - someone else here may know the answer. If you do resove that, I'm not even sure if you could leave your bags at any of the lounges - I've not seen any checked bag area in any of the lounges and I've visited all at least twice and the UA and LH ones many times. Their respective websites could give a clue.
Second, it could well be possible to leave the suitcases with Croatian - they don't have many flights and I'm not sure what time their check in opens (or even if it will be open when you arrive) but that could be a solution. You will need to check with Croatian whether they would even allow that quantity of carry on luggage on their flight.
Third, you may be better advised to store the luggage in London - I know, for example, that several Mail Boxes Etc. stores offer this service but don't know the price.
