Does *G get Virgin lounge access when travelling on Virgin Australia cnx to SA?
I'm flying SYD-PER-JNB, with SYD-PER on Virgin Australia.
As a A3 gold, do I get lounge access in Sydney and/or Perth? |
VA is not a Star Alliance carrier, so your *G is of no use at one of their lounges.

I'd normally suggest something like Priority Pass or Diners Club for lounge access while flying non-alliance carriers, but both have terrible reach in Australia. Priority Pass only has 1 in the whole country (Cairns) and Diners has zero.
BTW, subject line. Typically SA = South African Airways *A = Star Alliance |

According to the *A site in PER Thai and South African use the Qantas Club as a contract, not sure if they extend that to *G in Y. There is also the Singapore Airlines lounge that would get you access for *G but not familiar with the layout of PER.

OP is flying PER-JNB, and SA is the only airline that flies that route, so I'd say he/she got it right.
In that case, the OP should get lounge access in PER. Even though it's a contract lounge, *A rules dictate that they are supposed to extend the same lounge benefit to *G Y passengers as C passengers, even in contract lounges. You also get your +1 benefit. It will likely require going to the SA check in desk to get a lounge invite as most contract lounges don't grant access based on *G card. (there are exceptions though, for example the KQ lounge in NBO accepts *G cards for access when flying ET) |
Thanks for the check in desk hint
