Sata to the Azores
My wife and I are thinking of taking a trip to the Azores next summer. Unfortunately, the only airline that I could find that flies direct to the Azores from Boston is Sata, which is not a member of any airline alliances. I did notice however that Sata does codeshare with TAP Portugal who is a member of star alliance. Is it possible to book the TAP Portugal flight that is operated by Sata with United miles or another Star Alliance member's miles?

Nope.
Partners of partners doesn't really work. |

Codeshare flight numbers don't count. What counts for *A is the operating carrier (in this case a non-Star Alliance airline). For UA MP purposes Sata is not a partner. So if you want to go, you have to pay money.

Even if it has a TAP flight number?

Correct. In *A the operating metal matters.

On the plus side, the A310s they fly are increasingly rare in the commercial aviation world, so you get that.
