Accessing TBIT *A Lounge from T7/T8 at LAX

Plan on at least 15-20 minutes walking each way.

I just left the *A lounge in TBIT, and (for what it's worth) definitely recommend it if you have access. I'm in the middle of BDL-EWR-LAX-SYD, with a 3.5 hour layover in LAX. That's plenty of time to make good use of the *A lounge! I think I broke my own record getting there: 19 minutes from gate 74 to airside TBIT. Udon, assorted canapes, a long hot shower, and half an hour just chilling in the (remarkably relaxing) outside area. I feel so much better about the ensuing 15 hours to SYD! ^

The nice thing about LAX is that being able to access any terminal with any valid same day boarding pass. The *A lounge is one of the nicest in the USA.

Is there any way of accessing the *A 1st lounge without flying 1st?

Not missing much at LAX TBIT. J lounge is nicer than F. F is just a small room; J is one of the more interesting lounge spaces in the world, with indoor and outdoor terraces.

Since the same questions keep coming up, should I write up a wiki? I'm nowhere near the most frequent user of this lounge, but I'm pretty sure I won't botch the basics if I stick to the template of the UA forum's wiki on the LH IAD lounge.

In the F lounge, you have a la-carte dining.

You can get into the F lounge unofficially by going to the connecting door and waiting for someone to enter and with them...

Yes I've been there. The dining is a la carte but not impressive. The J lounge also has a better buffet. The only reason to go to the F lounge is the alcohol. And then leave and hang out in the J lounge, which is a far better space.

Somehow StarAlliance got this backward.

I don't agree the catering is better in the Business area - in fact, overall, the food is not that good at all. It used to be much better for food in the T2 AirNZ lounge about 5 years ago. (I guess being a 20 year Qantas flyer I have seen what can be done.)

[My access to the F section is as Virgin Australia Platinum flyer traveling VA.]

FWIW, I do find the *A environment is nicer than the nearby Qantas First Class "Cafeteria".

As ever, YMMV.

Arriving LAX from SYD in F (GPU upgrade from J). Previous time in TBIT was with carry on - this time I will have checked baggage.

1. Can I re-check onward to ORD in TBIT? (UAL)
2. To confirm, I can go back into TBIT and get into the J lounge
3. Can I also get into the F lounge?

Only if you've got a long connection. UA99 lands just before 7am. The *A lounge doesn't open until 9:20am. You do the math...
