can I ask to get rerouted to avoid an extra stop? (transatlantic)
For personal reasons I found out yesterday I need to travel to New York in exactely 3 weeks,
GOT-FRA-YUL-LGA and then return flight is JFK-YYZ-LHR-GOT. It was one of very few options avaliableso I booked it. As I'm attending a funeral I have to travel on these dates and my budget is restricted to a economy class ticket. Doesn't matter (I'm not looking for upgrades here just a smoother journey). My question is, is there even a SLIGHT chance that I can ask to get rerouted? Not now but on the day of the travel. My first leg is on LH and once in FRA can they at the transfer desk (and are they gonna be willing to) put me on a flight straight to any of the NYC airports? I'm flying Air Canada from FRA to YUL, shall I ask them or Lufthansa? I'm a 30year old woman, I will travel alone, dress smart (always bussiness casual for travel) and I travel with carry on only. Have no preferences as to where I sit, middle seat close to the restrooms are fine. Don't care for miles since I have no status with any airline. What are my chances? And for the return flight, my first leg is AC and I bold guess is that they don't operate transatlantic from JFK. What are my chances there? Would love a transatlantic flight straight out of JFK.... LH, UA or any other Star Alliance carrier? I'd really like to visit Canada somedey but few hours in transit isn't really what I had in mind. So ideally I'd like to go straight to NYC. Please help, I'm such a newbie. |
If the flight you are supposed to be traveling on is oversold, you can go up and propose your flight idea to the agent and they will more than likely switch you. Alternatively you monitor the flights and if it becomes available you can pay and have it switched to the more direct flight.

You can always ask. Unless there is some oversold/irregular ops situation I seriously doubt it will happen.
I suspect your best chance is on your outbound journey. Oh, collecting FF miles is not just for frequent fliers. |

^Will def ask and hope for oversold flights...

ETA: Looking back at your itinerary and assuming this is a paid reservation, it is hard to imagine that the AC flight will oversold but, there is a chance, and if so you should be prepared to ask nicely and see what they say. If both those legs were Lufthansa, then it would be easier... |

How are you booked? Mileage or paid ticket?

It's highly unlikely that Lufthansa will change FRA-YUL-LGA to a direct FRA-NYC flight even if the FRA-YUL segment is booked on LH.
It was just a crazy idea I had and thought I might try out. But I guess it is Bonjour Montreal for me then ;) |

As someone already mentioned: you have nothing to lose by asking. I would first ask the TA and then ask in FRA. The worse thing that happens is you keep your current itinerary. Best case scenario you get switched. You're already going to be at the airport anyway. Asking is always free.

I would hope that being a nicely dressed woman would have no impact on this.

off course I hope so too, I just read a lot of threads where people discuss what to and what not to wear or air travel. |
I had my father in law (who uses the same travel agent and travels for apporx 250 days/year) call them.
I'm now on the same route but a far closer connection in YUL.... only a 90min, will that be enough for customs and immigration? On the way back I was rebooked to a LH401 from JFK to FRA and then onwards to GOT. Thank heaven |
