EWR-SIN
Traveling EWR-SIN in November and wondering about the differences in business class service on UA vs. SQ. When I check Seatguru the SQ nonstop flight shows a 64 pitch, and as a 6-2, 230 pounder that sounds a little tight for such a long trip. Alternatively, UA has a 78" pitch but narrower seats and requires a connection, adding 6 hours travel time.
Wondering about others' experiences on these flights and what people recommend. |
EWR-SIN
SQ................

Any specific reasons, or just a preference for SQ?

If you've never flown SQ, then go with them. You'd never want to step foot on another UA plane again. |

There is a ton more space on the SQ flight. Plus only 100 seats in all-biz config makes for a much more calm feel over the flight.

I had 30K on SQ and it was amazing. You get a bench instead of the cutout into the seat in front of you which makes a nice difference. I was on that plane for a long trip, not sleeping much and the lavs never bothered me, not once. The staff really do run around every 5 minutes to check on everything, including such trifles as the smell of the lav. I don't know anyone who would complain about having a connection at Changi.

SQ without a doubt. Fyi, this route will soon, so take it while you can.

Another vote for SQ. If you have never flown them in First or business, you will
be amazed at the size of the seat. It is wide enough for 2 people to sit side by side, so when made into a bed, you have much more space than just the pitch indicates. |
I flew this about 6 weeks ago on SQ. The service is amazing and the seat is huge. I'm 6'1" and had no trouble at all. The advice to get a bulkhead seat is good advice though, I did that it has a bit more foot space when the bad is fully flat.
I flew UA on the BKK-NRT-SFO route two years ago and there's just no comparison. SQ is miles and miles and miles ahead. |
SQ. It's all about the service

SQ
It is only 4 across vs 8 across on United. You sleep diagonally, the pitch is less relevant since the length of the sleeping surface is much longer than the pitch indicates. Your feet actually go into a cutout of the seat in front of you. I am around 6 ft and also a bit on the heavy side. I find the UA seat too narrow, never had a problem with the length of the SQ seat. Also service on SQ is great and UA usually somewhere between mediocre and horrible. |
SQ in Business will outdo United in First in comfort, catering and service
... and you can't beat a non-stop flight in an all business class cabin for peace, uninterrupted sleep. UA is not even close to being in the same league as SQ |
