Ethiopian vs. Egyptair

I am planning an award trip to ACC and due to some scheduling quirks (the LH,TP, and TK flights get in too late for onward domestic travel) it looks like I am going to end up flying YYZ-CAI-ACC on MS or YYZ-ADD-ACC on ET. The flights would be on a combo of a 773/738 and a 1:45 transit in CAI with MS or a 787/763 combo and a 1:00 hr transit in ADD with ET. I will be flying business - which of these carriers is generally preferred? It seems like they both get pretty poor reviews on this site.

BTW, I don't drink so MS being dry is not an issue for me

I've flown add-acc on et in coach. Old plane, pleasant crew, but it was not crowded when I had the flight about 5 years ago. Last time I took tk JFK-ist-acc which is a lot better. I relieve that dl gets into acc around the same time but is another option. The worst part about et was going so far out of the way in Africa. It was 7 hr or so. I am not certain but I believe they were recliner j when I flew that route in 2003. Good luck!

I normally fly UA, and my experience in C with MS had similar highs and lows, and my colleagues who've flown ET say the same thing, so keep your expectations in check and be happy if they're exceeded.

If the MS 773 is old style seats then definitely avoid. New style is much better. However, whether ET 787 is flying again when you need it is another question.

MS 738 F is no different than anyone else's, whereas ET 767 C would be a nicer seat.

Regarding airports, CAI Int'l terminal is modern and efficient, ADD not as much, but it should be fine. You shouldn't need to clear immigration in CAI (there is a transit desk with a Business/First line if needed) so the connect times are sufficient. ADD was my terminal airport so I don't know about transiting there.

Hope this helps.

I actually thought ET was not too bad, the staff provide good service. MS I didn't think was as good, but the J seats on the 777 are really not bad, plenty of space although not completely flat. The seats on ET seemed smaller.

...oh and ET has alcohol if that's important.

Ain't no ET 787. Expect a 777 instead. For the next long while.

Actually the YYZ flight is operated by 763, and it will be like that for at least few more months.

Egyptair is dry but the transfer experience and the lounges in Cairo are far better than in Addis Abeba.
